Repo

Repo feltas though he was holding his damn breath waiting for Cat to give him her agreement and God when she gave him a simple nod, he grabbed her hand and dragged her to his truck.

“Get in,” he ordered. Cat looked at him as if he lost his mind.

“I’m not sure if you’re happy with my agreement or if I’ve pissed you off again, Repo,” Cat insisted. “You’re confusing me.” Honestly, he was just as confused about all of this himself. He was royally fucking this all up but he wasn’t sure how else to handle what was happening between the two of them.

“Sorry,” he breathed. He helped her into the passenger side of his truck and tucked a strand of her blond hair back from her face. “I’m just as confused about all of this, Honey. I’m pissed off at myself, really,” he admitted.

“For what?” she questioned.

“For wanting you when I shouldn’t. I’m breaking my number one rule by asking you to be mine,” he said. “Hell, I’ve never gotten involved with a job.”

Cat giggled, “Well, I can one-up you there, Repo. I’ve never gotten involved with anyone period.”

“Wait, what?” he asked. “You’ve never had a boyfriend or any type of relationship?” He knew she was twenty-seven from the paperwork he had her fill out after her arrest. How had she gone her whole life and never been in a relationship of any type?

“I told you about my step-father. Once I left home at sixteen, I was living on the streets. That makes it a little tricky to date. Honestly, there aren’t many men who want to date a homeless sixteen-year-old girl, you know. I started prostituting myself out and that put a damper on the number of guys who wanted to take me out on a date. So, here we are,” she said, holding her arms wide to drive her point home.

“Sorry,” he said. “I guess I didn’t think through my question before asking it. If it makes you feel any better, I don’t do relationships either. Hell, my life hasn’t been much different from yours and I’ve been avoiding anything serious my whole damn life,” he admitted. He never wanted to get involved with any one person for too long. The idea of being strapped down to just one person used to scare the shit out of him but since meeting Cat—all that fear seemed to disappear for him. He just hadn’t realized it until that morning.

Having to drive her back to Huntsville, worrying about what her future held, made him realize that all the feelings he had been fighting weren’t going to just disappear once he was rid of Cat. The thought of having to leave her at the courthouse to be processed and thrown behind bars pissed him off and he found himself putting up his walls to shut her out. That was easier than having to deal with the wave of feelings and emotions that seemed to crash into him, knocking him on his ass. Sure, he wanted this all to be over for her but when that lawyer’s water broke and she went into labor, Repo said a little prayer of thanks to the universe. This would give him more time with Cat—more time to figure out what she was coming to mean to him. More time to make her his. That’s what he wanted and denying it any longer wasn’t something he could do.

“How about we try to figure this out as we go,” he said. “I’ll try to be less of a grumpy ass and you promise to stick around and give me a shot.” Cat looked down at where their hands were joined and back up at him.

“What happens if I end up having to go away?” she asked.

Repo shrugged, “We’ll figure that out later then,” he promised. “How about we just take this one day at a time?”

“All right,” she agreed. Repo leaned in and hesitated, not sure if they were ready for this next step. Hell, he was sure they weren’t ever going to be ready for what he wanted to do next but he was done with waiting for a sign or some dumb shit like that. Cat nodded and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

“You can kiss me, Repo,” she said. “If you want to.”

“I fucking want to,” he growled. Repo dipped his head and kissed her and God, she tasted right. He let his tongue slide into her mouth and she moaned into his. He broke the kiss leaving them both breathless. “So fucking right,” he whispered.

“As much as I hate to say this, we need to get going, Honey,” he insisted. “I’ve called Savage and he’s waiting over at the bar. We’ll stay in town tonight since I have some club business to attend. Will you go back to my cabin with me tomorrow?” he asked.

“You don’t have to drag me back to Tennessee, Repo. I promise not to run. When I give my word, I keep it,” she said. He believed that about her too, but he wanted to take her back to his home. For some reason, having her in his space felt right.

“I know—just come back to Gatlinburg with me, Cat,” he asked.

She nodded, “All right,” she said. “I love your cabin, Repo. I’ll go back home with you.”

“Thank you, Cat,” he said.
