“You can’t keep on doing shit for me for free, Repo. Sooner or later, I’m going to have to earn my keep,” she insisted.
“All right,” Repo said. “You have any job skills?” She shot him a smirk, telling him in no uncertain terms that she didn’t.
“I dropped out of high school when I was sixteen and ran away. I never got my GED and my job skills, as you like to call them, consist of blow jobs and various sexual positions.” Repo looked her over, not at all shocked by what she was saying. She was going for that too—the shock factor but it was as if he hadn’t even heard her.
“I know you’re trying to get a reaction out of me, Cat but you’ll quickly learn that I’m pretty hard to shock. You’d be surprised to know that you and I are very much alike,” he said. This was the second time that Repo hinted to his past and she had to admit, she was intrigued.
“How so?” she asked, hoping that he’d finally share. Repo looked at the bar that filled most of the parking lot and then back at her.
“That’s a story for another time—promise,” he said. “I don’t want to go into my past right now. And, stop trying to change the subject. We’re talking about your job skills and not my past.”
“Actually,” she challenged, “we’re talking about my lack of job skills and you’ve been avoiding telling me about your past for weeks now.”
“All right—how about a deal then?” he asked.
“A deal?” she asked. “What are we talking about here?” Cat smiled at him and he chuckled.
“Not that kind of deal, Honey,” he said. “How about I agree to tell you about my past?” he asked.
“Deal,” she quickly blurted out. He laughed again and pulled her in for a hard, smacking kiss.
“You haven’t even heard your part of this yet,” he reminded.
“I don’t care what it is, I’m in,” she agreed.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that, Cat. I’m going to hire you and train you to work as my wingman,” he said.
“Wingman?” she squeaked.
“Sure,” he said. “Listen, business has been pretty steady and I can use and an extra set of hands. The work is hard and sometimes even physical but I think you’d make a good bounty hunter.” Now it was her time to laugh.
“Bounty hunter?” she questioned.
“Yep,” he said. “You have good instincts, Cat. And, you’ve been around the block and know the ins and outs of things.”
“Yeah,” she said, nodding. “I’ve been around the block a few times. That doesn’t mean I’d make a good bounty hunter, Repo.”
“How about you let me be the judge of that, Cat. Listen, we have about two more weeks of waiting for your trial and I can’t sit around anymore. I have to work,” he said.
“Yeah,” she grumbled under her breath, “me too.”
“Well, that’s where we both agree then. Although I know what you meant—and for the record, Honey, it’s not going to happen. Let me train you in what I do and if you like it, great. If not—you don’t have to make a career out of it. Plus, it’s a way for you to pay me back some like you want.” He wasn’t playing fair but Cat was quickly learning that was Repo’s style. He hit her hard and with everything he had when he wanted his way and she could tell that now was one of those times. He did have a point—she’d be able to start paying him back and it was honest work that would keep her out of trouble—mostly.
“Fine,” she agreed. “But it’s only for a two-week trial and I can make up my mind from there.”
“Sure, Honey,” he agreed. “Whatever you say. Now, let’s go in and grab a burger—I’m starving.”
Cat giggled, “You’re always starving, Repo,” she teased.
“Well, I’m a growing boy,” he said, bobbing his eyebrows at her, causing her to giggle. “Thanks for agreeing to our deal, Cat,” he said.
“No problem,” she said, jumping down out of his truck. “You can keep up your end of the bargain tonight. I can’t wait to hear all about your past, Repo,” she taunted. He looked pale as a ghost and she almost felt bad for the guy but she wasn’t about to let him off the hook. Cat wanted to know just what she was getting herself into and then, if he played his cards right, she’d give him a preview of her unique job skills, up close and personal.
