Repo smiled, pulling her against his body. “I’ll be the last man to take you—ever, if I have anything to say about it, Cat,” he growled.

“I think we can arrange that,” she promised. “I mean—you did tell me you love me and all,” she teased.

“And, you said the same,” he reminded. “Unless you’ve changed your mind,” he said.

“Nope,” she breathed. Even with all the unknowns in her life, Cat wouldn’t change falling in love with Repo. It just felt right being with him—like they fit.

“Good, now let’s get some sleep—we have a big day tomorrow,” he said. They did and hearing him call her problems his own made her fall in love with him just a little more.

Cat had tossedand turned all night, not able to rest. Finally, at dawn, she got up and showered, slipping into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She needed some fresh air and a walk. What she needed was to figure out what had woken her in the middle of the night from a dead sleep—could she be pregnant? Looking at her planner last night reminded her that she had been with Repo for two months now and in that time, she only had her period once. It started a few days after he bailed her out and drug her to his cabin in Tennessee. She remembered asking him if he could pick her up some tampons and the grimace on his face nearly made her pee her pants laughing at him. That meant that it had been at least seven weeks since the start of her last period and she was always on time. Her monthly cycles ran like trains on a tight schedule. She was about three weeks late and that had never happened to her before. Add in the fact that Repo never wore a condom with her and she was in the eye of a perfect storm. Cat chalked it up to having so much happen to her at once—moving to Tennessee with Repo, her first disastrous court case, their admitting that they were in love with each other and then seeing Liam after all these years—she might have just been stressed but the nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach told her otherwise.

She snuck out of Repo’s apartment and put her shoes on in the hallway of his building. She was leaning on the front door to balance herself when she practically fell through, landing up against Repo’s massive chest.

“Mind telling me where the hell you think you’re going, Cat?” he growled.

She smiled up at him, “Well, good morning to you too,” she teased. From the scowl on his handsome face, he wasn’t in the mood for teasing.

“I thought you agreed to no more running, Cat?” he asked. She knew that he had trust issues. Hell, they both did but it hurt that he thought she was trying to sneak off and not tell him. Did he believe that she’d go and meet a client after everything they had been through together?

“What do you think I’m doing, Repo?” she hissed. She sounded like she was pissed and well—she was. She didn’t like that he could think the worst of her when she had given him no reason to.

“It’s not like that, Cat,” he countered. He crossed his big arms over his bare chest and she looked him up and down.

“How about you tell me how it is then, Repo?” she said, mimicking his stance.

“You might not think your brother is still a threat but I’m not so sure. Hell, for all we know he was just the first wave and your step-father could be our next unexpected guest. I just don’t want you running off without letting me know where you’ll be. Hell, I’ll go with you but until I know for certain that you’re safe, I’ll be keeping an eye on you, Cat.” She deflated some, dropping her hands at her sides. He wasn’t worried that she’d sneak off to meet with another man. Repo was worried about her safety.

“So, you didn’t think I was sneaking off to meet a client?” she asked.

Repo looked her over and smiled. “Naw,” he said. “I know we haven’t been together long but I also know that you wouldn’t lie to me, Cat. You’ve always been honest with me, even when you knew I wasn’t going to like what you had to say. I trust you.”

She stepped into his body and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Thank you, Repo. Hearing you say those words to me—well, it means everything.” She went up on her tiptoes and gently kissed his mouth.

“But, there is something I need to tell you,” she admitted. “Something you might not like to hear but it’s the truth.”

“All right,” he said. “Let’s have it then.”

“Remember our conversation about my planner?” she asked. He quickly nodded and she took a deep breath. It was going to be hard to tell him this next part. She worried that their relationship was too new to face a possible pregnancy scare. She was just going to get it all out—like ripping off a band-aid.

“I always track my periods and the last one came three days after we met and I think I’m pregnant—well, I’m three weeks late,” she breathed. Repo stared blankly down at her and she wondered if he understood anything she had just said. “Repo,” she said.

He held up his hand, “Just give me a minute, Honey,” he ordered. She watched him as he seemed to work through everything in his head.

“So, you were going to the store to get a pregnancy test?” he asked, finally catching up.

“Yes,” she whispered. “I didn’t want to worry you unless there was something or in this case, someone to worry about.”

“I see,” he grumbled.

“I’m not asking you for anything here, Repo. I don’t expect you to be happy about this—hell, I don’t expect you to be anything at all. If I’m pregnant, I’ll figure it all out,” she promised. Repo tightened his grip on her arms until it was almost painful.

“Is that what you think of me, Cat?” he asked. “You honestly think I’d walk away from my kid? Does the fact that I told you I’m in love with you mean nothing?”

“You’re hurting me,” she said. Repo immediately released her arms and took a step back from her.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’d never—” She watched as Repo ran his hands through his unruly hair and she knew that he’d never hurt her.

“I know,” she said. “I didn’t mean that you wouldn’t do the right thing and stand by me, Repo. I just meant that if I am pregnant, it’s a game-changer. You didn’t sign up for this—any of it. I need to know if I’m going to be a mother before I walk into that courtroom today. I can’t focus on anything else right now. Please understand,” she begged. Cat reached for him and he shook her off.

“I won’t let you push me out, Cat. I know you’re scared about today and now this, but I’m going to be there for you and our kid. Give me a minute to grab my shoes and a shirt. I’m going to the pharmacy with you and we’ll take this test together. One step at a time,” he promised.

“Fine,” she agreed. “But I’m pretty sure that I’m the only one who will be peeing on a stick,” she grumbled.
