“Today?” Beck shouted. “Why the hell are you even here then? Shouldn’t you be getting ready?”
“That’s kind of what I’m doing. You see, I was going to ask if you’d be my maid of honor at the courthouse ceremony today. I got Judge Grimes to agree to marry us and we’re meeting down at the courthouse at noon to get the marriage certificate and get hitched.”
“Wow,” Beck breathed. “Oh Trinity, I’d love to be your maid of honor. Thank you so much for asking me.”
“You’ve become such a good friend to me, Beck. You’re so much more than my assistant and well, I’d love to have you by my side when I marry the man of my dreams.” Beck pulled her in for a quick hug and then she stood.
“I’m ready to work, just tell me what to do, boss,” Beck said.
“Technically, I’m not your boss anymore,” Trinity said. She looked around her tiny office and wondered why that thought didn’t make her sadder than it did. “I’ll have some packers come and grab my stuff tomorrow. Let me respond to the email and accept my termination agreement, and then, we can get out of here. Well, that is, if you can take off for the day.”
“I have some time off. I’ll shoot an email to HR telling them that I’m taking a vacation day and I’ll be ready to go.” Beck walked back out to her desk and Trinity sighed. She knew that being fired wasn’t ideal, but she had hated the firm and her job for so long now, it kind of felt like a relief. She pulled up the email and read over the letter, signing it without hesitation.
She needed to tell Ace what had happened and Trinity wanted to do it before their ceremony. Once they were at the courthouse, she wanted to focus on Ace. “Hey Beck,” she shouted, hitting send on the return email to HR. “I need to do something before I get married. Do you mind meeting me at the courthouse?” Trinity asked.
“Not a problem,” Beck agreed. “I’ll be there at noon. Can I do anything for you or pick-up anything on my way?”
“No, I think we have everything covered. Ace has been up since before dawn making arrangements. After our ceremony, we plan on going back over to his casino for a little celebration. I hope you’ll be able to join us.”
“Of course,” Beck agreed. “See you at noon, boss.”
“Trinity,” she corrected. “You’ll need to call me Trinity from here on out, Beck.”

Trinity walked into the casino and was waved up to Ace’s office without any trouble. She had a feeling that Ace knew she was coming because he was waiting to greet her as soon as she stepped off of the elevator.
“Hey,” he breathed, pulling her into his arms.
“Hi,” she said back. Ace sealed his mouth over hers and kissed her as if he hadn’t just done the same a little over an hour ago. “Wow—someone missed me,” she teased when he broke their kiss.
“I’m not the one who came across town, Honey,” he said. “Why are you here?” he asked. “Couldn’t wait to see me at the courthouse or just checking in to make sure that I don’t get cold feet. Because I can assure you that won’t happen,” he said.
“I have something I need to tell you and I don’t want to do it at the courthouse. I don’t want anything to overshadow our day,” she said.
“Well, shit,” he grumbled. “This sounds important.” He took her hand and led her back to his office.
“Hey guys,” Knox said, sticking his head out of his office as they passed by. “You two allowed to see each other before the ceremony?” he asked.
“Since we woke up together this morning, I’d say we’re fine,” Ace said.
“Hey Knox,” Trinity said.
“Congratulations,” Knox breathed. He stepped into the hallway to kiss Trinity’s cheek and she smiled. “Although why you’d want to marry this asshole, is beyond me,” he teased.
“Okay, that’s enough talking to my so-called best friend,” Ace griped. He pulled her along to his office and she looked back to see Knox laughing. He shrugged and she waved back to him. Ace shut the door to his office and sat down on the large sectional that took up most of the middle of the room, pulling her down to sit on his lap.
“This is better,” he said. “Now, tell me this news that couldn’t wait.”
Trinity took a deep breath and let it back out, “I was fired,” she said.
“Fired?” he questioned. “What the fuck for?”
“For taking on a case that the firm didn’t approve. I represented my sister and didn’t run it past the partner. That was a breach of my contract and they used it to fire me. I have a feeling that they were just looking for a way to legally get out of my contract with me, and well, they found it,” she said.
“They fired you for helping your sister?” he asked. Ace was furious and while she appreciated his anger on her behalf, it wasn’t necessary.
“Yes, among other things. They found out what happened last night with Rooster and that I planned on representing him too. They also heard some stuff about this guy that I’m seeing,” she said. Ace stilled under her body and she worried that this next part might piss him off even more.
