“Do you really think that this nightmare could possibly be over?” Harlow asked.

“I do,” Ryker said. “Michael seems to be damn good at his job and I’m betting that you’ll be free from this mess before your head hits the pillow tonight.” Harlow looked down at the stroller where Iris lay sleeping. The toddler had fallen asleep before they even began questioning them and she had slept through it all.

“She’s exhausted,” Harlow whispered.

“It’s been a long day for all of us,” Ryker said. “Let’s go check on your mom and then we can head home.” That’s how he was beginning to think about her place, as his home, but he had a feeling that had to do more with the woman and toddler who lived there rather than the actual building.

“Sounds good to me,” Harlow said. “Thanks for sticking by me today.”

“Honey,” he whispered, pulling her against his body. “I plan on sticking by you every damn day for the rest of your life. All you have to do is agree to marry me.”

She nodded, “Yes,” she whispered. “I’ll marry you.” Those were the sweetest words that he’d ever heard, and the giggle that followed as he tugged her up against his body and sealed his mouth over hers was just as magical.

“You’ve made me the happiest man on the planet, honey,” he whispered against her lips.
