“I want to say yes, but what about my parents?” he asked. Grace knew that his parents were going to be tricky to win over. They wouldn’t understand their relationship, but maybe, with a baby involved, they’d eventually come around.

“We’ll sit down, the three of us, and tell them. I’m sure that once they meet their grandchild, they’ll come around to see that our happiness should count for something,” she said. “But you can’t live your life miserable because your parents won’t accept who you are, Jon. You’re a part of us—me and Archer, and now, this baby,” she whispered that last part, leading his hand down to her tummy. “Say that you’ll be a part of all of this with us, Jon.”

He rubbed his hand over her flat belly and smiled up at her. “I’d like that, Gracie. But what about Arch? He told me not to come back if I walked away from you two in France.”

“Oh—you know Archer better than I do, Jon. He’s a hot head and then, he blows it off and regrets his words not long after. He told me that he regretted saying those things to you as soon as he did. Just give us another chance, please,” she begged. “This won’t be easy—none of it will, but I think we can find our way through with open communication and some therapy.” She and Archer had been seeing a therapist every week and she even got Jon to go a few times with her while Archer was in France. She wholeheartedly believed in the power of therapy healing their relationship.

“I want to try,” he agreed.

“Thank you.” Grace stood and snuggled into his arms. “There’s one more stipulation,” she whispered.

Jon’s groan filled his office, making her giggle. “Let’s have it,” he grumbled.

“You have to help us pick out a new house and when it comes time to move, you need to do most of the heavy lifting with Archer, since I’m knocked up,” she teased.

“A new house?” he asked. “But you love your brownstone, Gracie,” he insisted. She did. It was the first place that she and Archer ever lived together, their first big purchase, but now, the three of them needed something to call their own.

“It’s my and Archer’s place, Jon. Asking you to move in there with us wasn’t fair to you and we see that now. We want a fresh start, the three of us, and this is the best way to do that.”

“I feel that you and Archer are making a lot of changes for me, honey,” he said. “It doesn’t seem fair.”

“It’s more than fair. We’re doing this because we both want you, Jon. We should have made these changes from the start and maybe, we could have avoided our little blow-up in France.”

“It was our first big fight,” he said.

“And it won’t be our last. With three personalities in this relationship, we’re sure to have issues, but we’ll find a way to work through them, with a therapist’s help,” Grace promised.

“How did you get to be so damn smart?” he asked.

She giggled, “Well, I’ve always been this brilliant, you were just too busy making eyes at Archer to see me.”

“Oh—I saw you, Gracie,” he promised. “That was never the issue.”

“Let’s go find Archer. I told him that I’ll be home in time for dinner and to plan for dinner for three. Let’s go see what our guy has whipped up,” she said.

“Quick question,” Jon breathed. “If you were planning on being home in time for dinner, then what’s in the suitcases?” he asked.

She giggled, picking up both suitcases and lifting them with ease. “Nothing,” she said. “They were just for show—you know like props to really sell my performance.” He laughed and took the suitcases from her. “Come on my little actress,” Jon teased. “Let’s go convince our guy to skip dinner and have some fun with us. I want to show you both how much I missed you.”

“Now, that sounds like a perfect way to spend an evening,” Grace agreed. “Cuddled up with my two guys.” She couldn’t imagine any better way to spend their first night back together.
