And in that moment, Jackson knew this was it.

Without alerting Savannah, he typed out a quick text to his brothers before sliding his phone back into his pocket. Then he held out his hand to her and pulled her in close. “It’s time, love,” he said gruffly. “It’s time.”

She nodded.

She understood.

Taking a step back, he watched as she walked back over and hugged Cash and whispered some words to him and Jackson swore the old guy smiled. It wasn’t any of his business what she was saying to him and realized that he should step out of the room to give them privacy.

With a weary sigh, he walked down to the nurses’ station and asked if there was anything he needed to do.

“Sadly, all you can do is wait,” one of them told him. “We’ll call Dr. Fallon and let him know, but…”

All he could do was nod.

Garrett and Emma arrived fifteen minutes later. They’d just pulled into their driveway when they’d gotten his text. The next time the elevator door opened, Austin stepped out and together they went back to the room to say their goodbyes.

At 12:06 a.m., Cash Coleman took his last breath, surrounded by his three sons, Savannah, and Emma.
