“But…”

Holding up a hand to stop her, he shook his head. “No arguments.” Reaching into his wallet, he pulled out some cash, stuffed it into the folio, and then tossed it on their table. When they turned to walk out, he caught Jamie’s eye and nodded toward the booth.

Outside, the air had cooled and Savannah shivered slightly. Her car was parked in the first spot in the lot and they got to it much sooner than he would have liked.

“I had a really good time tonight, Jack. Thank you for dinner, but you really didn’t have to do that.”

He smiled. “Like I said, this was your night, and I thank you for letting me share it with you.” The urge to kiss her was strong, but instead, he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her cheek. Taking a step back, he said, “Be careful driving home.”

She studied him for a long moment before smiling shyly at him. “You too. And thanks again.”

Jackson watched as she climbed into the car and pulled away. He felt guilty about not asking for her number, but the way he felt right now, he thought it was for the best. They had a good time and it was a nice memory, but the fact that he was feeling this strongly about her bothered him.

Scared him.

Now so wasn’t the time to get involved with anyone.

No matter how tempting they were.
