Hard.

“What is wrong with you?” she cried.

“Um…”

“You just cost me a freaking awesome employee! What the hell did you do?”

“I didn’t do anything! We talked and…”

“And you were a complete jerk and made her cry! For the love of it, Jackson, I thought you were one of the good ones! Since when do you go around bullying women?”

“Bullying…wait, what? I didn’t bully her, Parker. We are obviously in a really awkward situation and we both sort of…vented our feelings! It’s not my fault if she didn’t like hearing the truth about Cash.”

She growled and shoved past him before taking a seat behind the reception desk. “Okay, I’m going to tell you something and you’re going to listen.”

Great…

“It is perfectly fine for you to be pissed at your dad. No one can blame you. But you can’t be pissed off at people just because they’re friends with him. The relationships are not even remotely the same. You’re an intelligent guy and surely you can grasp that concept.”

“Parker, it’s not that simple…”

“Yes, it is. You have no idea what Savannah’s life has been like and honestly, neither do I. But from the little I do know about her, I don’t think it’s been great. There could be a million reasons why she’s befriended your dad, but not many people would uproot their lives the way she has to help a guy fulfill a dying wish. Think about that.”

Dammit.

He hated that she had a point.

And how he had put his own hurtful spin on that exact thing just fifteen minutes ago.

“Is she still here?” he asked before letting out a long breath.

“She’s gone. And it’s all your fault.”

“I’m not taking the blame on this. If she was so quick to up and quit, it’s probably because she doesn’t even need the job. For all you know, she and Cash are renting some swanky place on the beach and she was looking for something to do to kill some time.”

“Wow. Just…wow.”

“Now what?”

At first, all she did was frown at him. Then she must have come to some decision because she gave a curt nod and turned to write something down.

“Here.”

Jackson took the piece of paper from her hands. “What’s this?”

“Their address. If you’re smart, you’ll go there and apologize to Savannah first, and then deal with your father.”

Before he could respond, her phone rang and Parker immediately turned to answer it. That was probably for the best because he had no idea how he would reply to her.

Hell, he had no idea what he was even going to do with the information he had in his hand.

So, he quietly walked out of the spa and turned to walk back to his apartment. Maybe he’d figure something out in the span of three blocks. His phone buzzed in his pocket and he pulled it out and swiped the screen.

Parker: Make this right, Jackson. I’m serious.

Parker: Do NOT make me hunt you down and kick your butt!

That made him chuckle. His cousin talked a good game and could be scary at times, but there was no way she could kick his butt.
