“Keep going,” she told him.

“No,” Gray told her firmly. “There is no need for you to watch this. Come here.”

He drew her into him, pressing her face to his chest with his hand against the back of her head as he rocked her.

“Now play it,” Gray demanded.

There was no sound so it wasn’t like she could hear anything. But she still flinched for some reason.

Maybe she should watch. Maybe it would help her remember.

Or perhaps it was best she never remembered.

Gray continued to rock her as Sampson and Isaiah started swearing.

“Fucking bastard, I’m going to fucking kill him,” Sampson said darkly.

She jumped.

“Watch your anger in front of Maeve,” Gray said in a dark voice.

“It’s all right,” she managed to say. “I’m not scared of Sampson.”

“You flinched,” Gray grumbled.

She got that his protective instincts were probably raging and he likely had the need to expel some of his anger. But Sampson shouldn’t be his target.

“You’re right,” Sampson said. “I apologize.”

Surprise had her trying to lift her face from Gray’s chest. But Gray pressed her back against him.

“I think I’ve got him,” Isaiah said. “Fuck. God damn it.”

She turned, looking down at the image of the man who had tried to kill her.

“Fucker is wearing a mask,” Gray growled.

It was one of those masks that went completely over your head and had fake face. Scary and horrifying. Now, she’d probably be seeing that face in her nightmares.

Disappointment flooded her as she realized that their lead had gone nowhere.

Gray drew her back against his chest. “Don’t worry, baby. We’ll find this asshole.”

Lord, she hoped so.

Gray steppedout to the car to make a call as Maeve finished up her goodbyes with her friends.

He glanced over at the nondescript dark car that the two men Alejandro De Leon was insisting come with them were sitting in.

The third man was going to stay here for a while to make sure that asshole didn’t come back.

Fuck, he wished he knew who that asshole was who was stalking her.

He placed a call to Markovich.

“Gray, tell me you’re on your way home.”
