She nodded at his stern tone.
“Words.”
“Yes, Daddy. I will.”
She knew he was only being so strict because he was worried about her.
“The bracelet is waterproof, so you can wear it in the bath or shower, and it won’t stop the GPS tracker in it from working. So there are no excuses for taking it off.”
“I won’t, Daddy. I promise.”
“Good girl.”
“Now, for a really important question.”
“Yes, girl?”
“How good are you at singalongs?” She reached for the radio.
“Not happening, little girl.”
“We’ll see, Daddy. We’ll see.” She turned the music up loud and started to sing. If Gray winced a few times, she ignored it.
It was a road trip, after all. Bad singing was just part of the fun.

By the timethey got to their destination for the night, she was tired.
“Come here, baby,” Gray said softly as she stood and stared at the bed. They were in a small motel not far from the center of town. Alejandro’s men were in separate rooms.
“I wonder how sound proof these rooms are,” she muttered.
“I don’t think you’re up to making much noise tonight, girl. But just in case, I booked out the two rooms next to us. De Leon’s guys are in the rooms across the hall.”
Oh. Well then.
Gray drew her into his arms and hugged her. “You’re tired, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” she sighed.
“Come on, let’s go get some dinner, then I’ll put you to bed.”
She nodded. She didn’t really want to eat, but she knew he had to be hungry. And he wouldn’t go out without her.
Not that she wanted to be on her own.
By the time they got back to the motel room an hour later, she had a big gravy stain on her top and she was yawning in exhaustion.
“Poor baby,” he murmured, ushering her in and locking the door. “You want a shower tonight or in the morning?”
“Tonight.” She still had to shave. She hadn’t managed that last night.
“I’ll turn on the shower and get your stuff out.”
She rubbed her eyes, sitting on the bed to take off her shoes. By the time he returned, she was pulling off her skirt.
“Girl, that’s my job,” he grumbled at her as he came over to strip off the rest of her clothes.
