The shock washed away from his face, and a look of anger took over. His chocolate brown eyes scowled at me with so much anger, it caused me to flinch. He stood staring at me for a few seconds before he looked back to where the stairs were.

“Ethan, wake up. She’s here.”

Then he turned on his heels and went back into the house, leaving me with my bags on the porch.

I had expected the iciness from Grayson. After what had happened four years ago, his anger was justified. I just hoped that he wasn’t staying under the same roof as me while I was here. I wanted peace for these next few days so that Ethan would be able to grieve without worrying about Grayson and I killing each other.

I watched his retreating figure until he rounded the corner and headed for the kitchen.

“Hello to you, too, Grayson.”

I took a step into the house and readied myself for whatever was to come next.
