I wish you love, and I wish you life, my sweet baby girl.

If you ever want to see me, just look up. I’m somewhere up there dancing in the clouds.

With all my love,

Peter

By the time I was done reading, I was in tears. Damn hormones. I folded up the letter and looked to the sky.

“Thanks, Dad,” I whispered.

“Who is that?” Danny asked from her seat next to me.

I followed her gaze and saw Gavin, the new ranch hand, on the dirt bike headed our way. To be honest, he reminded me a lot of those cowboys that you saw in movies. He even had the accent that went along with it. Well, it wasn’t thick, but it was there.

“You said you needed help, so I hired someone.”

Gavin drove up the driveway of the house and parked. He hopped off the bike and looked to where we sat on the porch. He smiled and then waved, but then his smile dropped, as he drew closer.

I looked at Danny, and she was staring at him like she had seen a ghost.

“Oh my God,” she said, “Gavin?”

“You two know each other?” I asked as Gavin came to stand by the porch steps.

“We used to be best friends, ain’t that right, love?” Gavin smiled at Danny who had a slight blush to her face.

Well, this was interesting.
