Chapter 8 - Gavin: Upfront
I had just stepped out of the shower. A cold-ass shower. Danny had left me in need and wanting more. If Axel hadn’t woken up, I would have kissed her and who knows what else would have come from that kiss.. After almost a two-decade wait, I would have finally known what she tasted like.
I walked into my bedroom and headed to my dresser. I was about to drop my towel when I heard a voice behind me that made me jump.
“Do you want to have sex with Danny?”
I whirled around to find Maddy sitting on my bed with a bowl of noodles in hand. She was staring at me, waiting for an answer, like she hadn’t just broken into my home.
She slurped on her noodles and blinked at me, waiting.
“Maddy? What are you doing here? How did you even get in?”
“Your front door was unlocked and I got tired of waiting downstairs so I came up here. Now answer my question, do you want to have sex with Danny?”
“No,” I exclaimed. “Couldn’t this be done over text or something? You know, when I’m not standing in front of you fully naked. Could you turn around please?”
“No.” She heaped a fork full of noodles into her mouth. “Do you want to?”
“Want to what?”
“Have sex with Danny. Are you hard of hearing or something? I have repeated myself like four times.”
I blinked. Was this really happening? I was not used to people being this forward with me. I didn’t know whether or not to respect her even more for what she was doing or view her as crazy.
“I know you are my boss and all but what goes on between me and Danny is none of your business, so I don’t feel the need to answer your question.”
She narrowed her eyes and pointed her fork accusingly at me. “I respect it. Fine. Don’t answer me, but I need to make one thing clear to you, Gavin. Danny is my sister, whether it be through law; that girl is my family, and I protect my family.
“She has been through a lot of shit in her life. So if you are just going to come in here and fuck up her life again, you and I will have some words. There will be no corner on this earth that I will not find you and make your life a living hell.”
“Is that a threat or a promise?” I asked amused. I was a head taller than Madison, and I looked down on her even when she wore heels. And with her being pregnant, it only added to the amusement of her threats.
“It’s a promise, Gavin. Don’t. Hurt. Her.”
“I never intended to. I care about her just as much as you do, if not more.”
“That’s what all the fuckboys say until they fuck up your life and leave you in pieces. I don’t want that for her. She deserves to be treasured like the true diamond she is. In my eyes, no man will ever be good enough. No matter how perfect they may seem.”
“I know. I don’t deserve her,” I ran a hand over my wet hair. “But I will spend the rest of my life trying to be a man worthy of her heart if she would allow me to.”
Silence fell between us. Maddison stared at me with scrutinizing eyes. She was directing me, trying to dig beyond all the layers I had surrounding me.
“Fine,” she said as she placed her bowl on the end table of the bed. “Good talk. Now, help me up. This belly makes getting up from places incredibly difficult.”
“Of course,” I said, walking over to her. I helped her stand on her feet and made sure that she was stable enough that she wouldn’t tip backward.
“You love her, don’t you?” She stared at me through those haunting blue eyes that looked like they could see right into your soul.
“I never stopped.” My answer came out easily.
She smiled knowingly. “And I know she loves you, but she just doesn’t know she knows that she loves you.”
Her words were a little confusing, but I understood what she was trying to say,
“She has a lot of walls up, and she has good reasons to. That ex of hers did a number on her heart. I wasn’t there when they were together but, from what she told me, if I ever see the asshole, I will probably cut his balls off and serve them to him in smoothie form.”
“Are you always this violent?”
