Gavin brought out two red roses and handed them to Maddy and me. I knew the gesture was purely friendly, but it had my heart hammering in my chest, especially from the way that Gavin was staring at me right now.
“And I also have this for you.” Gavin handed me a dandelion. “Make a wish, Dan.”
I gave him a small smile. “How did you know?”
He gestured to Axel who was now playing with my phone which he had somehow gotten a hold of. “A little birdie told me that this is somewhat of a tradition for you.”
I glanced at axel before looking back at the dandelion in Gavin’s hand. Even though they were speaking to each other, I could feel Maddy’s eyes on me. I blocked her out.
I leaned forward and closed my eyes, making my wish.
I wish for clarity when it comes to Gavin.
I blew the little feathers on the flower, and they fell off the plant. When I opened my eyes again, my gaze found Gavin’s almost instantly. He had a gentle smile on his face, and his eyes were bright.
“What did you wish for?”
“If I told you, it may not come true.”
“Fair enough. Hopefully, whatever it was, it will come true.”
I hoped so, too, because teetering on the border of uncertainty was exhausting.
