He shook his head. “She refuses to let me see him. So, I decided to file for custody of my son. I had already missed out on three years of his life. I would not miss out on more. It’s not fair. Growing up without a father, I know the necessity of that father figure in a child’s life. She is robbing me of my opportunity. She is robbing both me and my son.”
“If you could say anything to her, what would you say to her right now?”
Arthur turned away from the woman and looked directly at the camera. “Danny, come back with our son, and let’s talk about this face to face. I only want a chance to be a better man for you and for him.”
Then the video cut off.
Gavin’s hands were so tightly wound around the steering wheel, I was sure that if he held onto it any tighter, it would break.
When we pulled up to the beach house, we got out of the car silently. Gavin held onto my hand from the car until we walked into the living room. We stopped short when we noticed two people sitting in the living area.
Callum was sitting on one armchair and on the other was a stunning woman who I was sure I had seen on the cover of a magazine somewhere.
Gavin had his eyes on the woman, and his face had gone deathly pale. My eyes moved between them. The woman was looking at him with a wistful expression. I knew that face—regret and sadness. My head immediately started putting the dots together.
This was either one of two things. One, they were previous lovers, and she had come back hoping for some kind of reunion.
Or two, something between them had transpired and now, just like my past, his had come back to haunt him.
“Hello Gavin.” The woman rose to her feet. Her eyes finally moved from Gavin and then they landed on me. There was no animosity in her eyes or displeasure, only curiosity. “Hi, I’m Tatiana. You must be Danny, the woman who managed to save his heart.”
“I don’t mean to be rude but who are you?”
“I’m the woman that broke his heart,” she said with a sad smile.
Just when I thought my life couldn’t get any more complicated.
