“I don’t know. Maddy’s ex is an absolute psychopath trying to get the public to hate on her. My ex just showed up telling me that she’d refused to marry me for my benefit. I don’t know what the hell is going to happen when we get back to Riverroad with all these damn paparazzi snooping. Riverroad is Danny’s safe place and now that prick has taken that from her.”
“It’s a lot.” Callum came to sit down next to me. “I know you didn’t like seeing Tati here, but I knew that the two of you needed to talk it out. She had always been good to you, man. You know that I know that, hell the whole social media world saw that. She would never intentionally hurt you just to hurt you.”
“I realize that now. She actually did me a favor by saying no to me when I proposed.”
Callum looked at me confused.
“She wasn’t for me and she knew it but I had been so deep in trying to be the guy that everyone wanted me to be. I was trying to live for everyone else except for myself. It took Tati breaking us up for me to see that Danny is what I needed.”
Callum hummed in agreement, ‘I got to say seeing you after all these months you look happy. You look like you again.”
I nodded in agreement. “I am. She made me believe and live again.”
He patted me on the back. “So what are you going to do now?”
“First, I need to go and see my girlfriend and make sure that she is okay. Then I’m going to hunt down Arthur Williams and hope I don’t kill him when I beat his face in.”
“Are you telling me that Danny’s ex is Arthur fucking Williams? As in Lord Williams? The wannabe Justin Bieber?”
I nodded. “If I had known back then when we saw him at that party, I would have kicked his ass for what he did to her. But I have a feeling I will get my chance.”
“I will join you, just for fun.”
I rolled my eyes. “Please. You hate violence even for a good cause.”
“I can make an exception for you—you’re family.. And since Danny is your family now too, that makes her my family.”
“Yeah.” I smiled knowingly. “Family.”
“Now, go see your girlfriend. She seems to be in okay spirits, considering all that has happened tonight.”
“She holds it together well. A little too well for my liking, but she is used to being independent. I can’t blame her for wanting to keep a level head, but with me, I want her to know that she can break and be vulnerable. She doesn’t always need to be the strong one. She is allowed to be vulnerable.”
“We’ve all got walls, man. We also have defense mechanisms in place for when we feel under threat. She’s only trying to protect herself from being hurt and left alone again.”
“But I would never leave her alone.” It was a forever kind of thing between Danny and me. There was no one else for me, apart from her. She was the very air I breathed. Her existence was a battery source. I was tethered to her from the moment I met her and even though I had tried to run from it, her ghost still haunted me.
“She knows that. Which was why she didn’t break down with the Tati situation. Just go to her now.”
Without another moment's hesitation, I got up from my seat and made my way to our bedroom. When I walked in, Danny was sitting on the bed with one of my large shirts on. Her hair was in a messy bun, and she looked so at ease.
She lifted her head when she saw me. She got up from the bed and walked over to me. I stood still, waiting for her to dictate how this was all going to go. Today had been a lot, and I didn’t want to push her.
She stopped in front of me and wound her arms around my neck. She pulled me down to meet her lips, and she gave me the slightest feather of a kiss.
“You better?”
“Yeah. But I just wanted to explain about what…”
“Shhhh.” She leaned her forehead against mine. “It was closure. It was what you both needed. You don’t have to tell me right away what went on between you and Tatiana. For now, just hold me.”
I wound my arms around her waist, pulling her flush against me. I don’t know how she managed it, but she always managed to instill a sense of peace in my heart.
In every sense of the word, Daniella Anderson was incredible.
