I swing the light over and his cold lips are tilted in a smirk. “I’m the only one here. What the hell would scare you?”

“You were unconscious.” My brows knit together and I lift his arm up to check his pulse. “How do you feel?”

He shoves his big body up with a growl and I feel that simmering heat in my belly again. With no light and noise in the cab, I feel smothered by him. Surrounded by him. He’s so big and muscular.

I push the nervous energy down. I can feel his eyes on me and his pulse jumps erratically.

I lift my eyes and see him watching me, his dark gray eyes locked on me like a hawk.

“You didn’t get hurt, did you?” he asks.

“No, I’m fine. I might have a few bruises but nothing that bad.”

“Good.” He sighs and tilts his head back on the headrest. “Do you see my bag anywhere? I could really use a pain reliever.”

“Are you sure you should take something so soon? And don’t fall asleep. I think you have a concussion.”

He rolls his eyes and grunts, sitting up taller. “I’m sure I do. But I’ll be fine. I’m just worried about how long we’re going to be stuck out here. You must be starving and I’ve ruined your night. And your appointment. Can you reschedule?”

I flush and avoid his eyes. “I didn’t really have an appointment.”

His left brow quirks when he turns to me. His tousled dark hair makes my fingers itch to fix it. “You lied to me, Poppy.”

His dark voice and the way he says my name makes my belly flutter but I shove it down yet again. I don’t need this.

“Yes, I didn’t want to come with you.”

“Well, I guess you knew better than me.” His sparkling eyes close and he groans.

I reach out a tentative hand and lightly shake him. “Hey, don’t go to sleep. You need to stay awake so I can keep an eye on you.”

“What do you want to do? I don’t plan on sitting here in complete silence while we wait for help.”

“I don’t know. We can talk.”

His aquiline nose wrinkles and I feel an insane laugh tickling my throat. I reach over and push his hair off his forehead to look at his wound. He grabs my wrist and I gasp, feeling a burst of heat run up my arm, my heart racing.

His fingers lightly caress my wrist and I shiver, fighting the urge to close my eyes. His dark eyes never waver even as his hand pulls me closer.

“Wh-what are you doing?” I whisper, trapped in a firestorm of emotions.

“Something I’ve wanted to do since I saw you.” I’m half across his broad chest, staring up at his firm lips. My other hand lifts up and touches his cheek. A glint of fierce hunger lights the darkness in his gaze.

“Dammit, this is a bad idea,” he mutters under his breath. Right before his lips slam down on mine.

Gasping, my lips open to his ferocious touch. He groans and tugs me higher on his chest. His lips push mine open further and his tongue plunges deep inside my mouth. One hand tangles in my hair, wrapping my head tight in his hand.

“What the hell is going on? Why can’t I stop thinking about you?”

My head reels when I feel his hips lift up into my aching body. “Oh my god!” I whimper. It’s been so long. I haven’t been with anyone since I caught my boyfriend cheating on me in my last year of college.

My body is revved up so high that I can’t even breathe. His lips slide down my cheek and my head falls back giving him better access to my throat. He tugs hard at my earlobe and I gasp, writhing in his arms.

He turns his body so he’s propped up on the door and shoves the seat back with the handle on the side.

“What are you doing?” I squeak, my head popping up to stare at him. But he doesn’t answer. Instead his lips claim mine again, softer, sweeter. Warmth pours through my veins like melted chocolate.

His big hands rip at my scrub shirt, tugging it over my head. My hair flies in my eyes and I shake my head, transfixed by the shimmering heat in his dark gaze.
