Chapter Sixty-two

“Well, that wasa colossal waste of time,” Tracy said as we returned to my car.

“At least we got our concerns on the record,” I told her.

“I guess.” We climbed into the front seat. “Can I ask you something?” she asked as we secured our seatbelts.

“Can I stop you?”

She smiled. “What was he like?”

“What was who like?” I asked, although I already knew who and what she was referring to.

“Andrew…Roger…whatever you want to call him. What was he like…you know…in bed?”

I groaned, pulled out onto the street, heading north up Bay Street.

“He was good, wasn’t he?”

“Very good,” I admitted.

“I knew it. The stinkers are always great in bed.”

“Can I askyousomething?” I asked in return.

“Can I stop you?” she replied, with a laugh.

“Why didn’tyou?”

“Why didn’t I what?”

“Why didn’tyousleep with him?”

“Are you kidding me?” Tracy answered. “Sleep with Elyse’s son? I may be shallow, but I’m not stupid. You think I couldn’t sense there was something fishy about that whole scenario? I knew he was just using me to keep tabs on us, using that considerable charm to get whatever information he could out of me. Basically, the same thing I was trying to do with him.”

“Really? You seemed so enamored.”

“Told you I’m a great actress.”

I laughed. “So,didyou find out anything useful?”

“Nothing I didn’t already know from googling him.”

“You googled him?”

“You didn’t?”

I groaned. How stupidwasI? “So, he really does live in Detroit and work for some big wealth management company?”

“Apparently. But who knows?” she mused. “The whole thing could be a setup. People have been known to create fake accounts.” She looked around. “Where are you going now?”

“To Dad’s.”

“What? Why?”

“Remember Officer Stankowski’s advice about dropping in unexpectedly? If Elyse denies us access…”

“Then we can involve the police.”
