King Richard nodded to Lady Ernestine. “I will let the Lady of Rothbury tell us who she has chosen.”

Lady Ernestine stepped forward and looked out at the crowd. “It is my pleasure to announce that the man who will inherit my late husband’s holdings is a very brave man. He thinks of others before himself and has saved not only my life, but the life of the king, as well as Lady Morag. Congratulations, Sir Bedivere Hamilton, the late earl’s estate is all yours.”

“Me?” Bedivere’s eyes opened wide in surprise, but the crowd remained silent.

Morag’s heart stilled. She felt as if the people didn’t accept him, and she wondered if they all knew his secret.

Then Reed stood up and slowly started clapping. Rook and Rowen jumped up and did the same. Before she knew it, everyone was on their feet applauding and congratulating not only Bedivere but also Morag.

“Bedivere, I canna believe this,” she said shyly, looking out to the crowd in awe.

Bedivere leaned closer and spoke in her ear. “Morag, because of your father’s help, as well as the words to the king from your uncles, I am cleared of all charges. Richard has thanked me for saving him from the men who had conspired against him. He was a little disappointed that I’d killed Whitmore, but only because he wanted the pleasure of doing it himself.”

“Throw the bouquet,” called out someone from the crowd.

“Here, Morag.” Willow placed the flowers in Morag’s hands.

“Oh, all right,” she said, closing her eyes and tossing the bouquet out to the crowd.

Everyone started laughing and she didn’t know why. When she opened her eyes, Branton held the flowers and had an odd look on his face.

“Why do I always end up with this?” asked Branton.

“Well, Squire,” yelled out Maira’s husband, Sir Jacob. “Mayhap, it is time for you to get married.”

“Nay,” said Branton, taking the bouquet and hurriedly handing it to Lady Ada.

“I love you, Morag,” said Bedivere. “And I want to thank you for saying you’d always be at my side to help me through any rough times I might have from the demons of my past.”

“I love ye, too,” said Morag, kissing her new husband. “And I want ye to ken that this is the happiest day of my life.”
