“Move over, here I come!”

After a shower, they cuddled on the sofa, munching on cheese and crackers in between kisses. They’d formed a deeper connection on this retreat. Would it last, or would he shun her like the others? Her mind wouldn’t quit. She would try to put a halt to her doubts somehow. An afternoon in the arms of a strong, caring man was a gift. Beneath his loving exterior, Jon’s eyes held a sadness that concerned her, however, she’d discuss it further with him another time. The mysterious woman in the hallway had let her in on a deep, dark secret. She swore her to secrecy. It wasn’t something she didn’t hear about before. Her grandmother told her stories from the days when witches carried evil upon those who threatened them. She’d keep it quiet, until he was open to discussion. She vowed to find a way to free him of his sorrow.

“I should get back,” Krista said.

“I wish we could stay here forever.”

Somehow, she truly believed him. Jon locked up and they were on their way.

He turned off the car in front of her shop. “Do you want me to walk you inside?”

“No, I can make it fine. Thank you for the wonderful afternoon.”

“You’re an extraordinary woman. Can I call you later?” He moved closer, pulling her into his chest, and kissed her neck.

“If you’d like.” She looked up at him. She didn’t want to leave. She’d much rather throw her arms around his neck and forget the real world, but she had responsibilities.

“I usually wait to get close to a woman, but with you, it’s different. Enjoy the rest of your day.” He placed his hand on her chin and stared at her.

“I will. Talk to you later.” She got out of his car and watched him pull away.

There had been so many changes in such a short time, and she didn’t know what the future had in store for her now. She giggled to herself, and with a skip in her step like a young girl, she hurried inside to call Terri and give her an update. It had become a ritual to share details of relationships. It brought her great comfort.

“Can you talk?” she asked Terri.

“I was just thinking about you. I’m on a break, so I’m all yours.”

It took Krista a minute to catch her breath. It had all happened so fast. “As you know, Jon showed up at my shop this morning while we were on the phone.”

“Go on. What did he want?”

“He’d packed a basket of goodies and took me to his cabin on the lake.”

“Wow! Sounds like something out of a movie. Did you sleep with him?” Terri asked.

“I’ve never met anyone like him. He’s an unbelievably passionate man.”

“So, the answer is yes?”

Krista held back a giggle, feeling like she could accomplish anything. “Yes, and it was perfect. He’s everything I ever wanted.”

“Are you falling for him?” Terri asked.

“I know it’s soon, but I think so.”

“Good for you.”

“This time, I’m doing the right thing. He’s got a lot on his plate right now, but soon it will be all right.” Confidence took over her once doubtful side.

“How do you know so much, so soon?”

“Trust me, that’s all I can say for now.”

“You’re scaring me, but I trust you,” Terri replied.

“It will all come out in time.”

“Does he know about your past?”
