“You won’t. You’re out, Finn. Your time at LSS is finished.”
“What?” He tossed his arms out. “One fuck up and you’re tossing me aside? No, I do not accept that.”
A storm rolled through my limbs. Electricity raised the hair on my arms and the back of my neck. “Youdon’t accept it? Does that change a single thing?” I pushed him twice, sending him stumbling into the wall behind him. “The circumstances are of your own creation. You chose to sleep with the wife of our client. That’s on you. This entire mess is on you.”
Straightening, he brushed himself off. “I am taking the goddamn blame, Ronan! I am not denying I was with Vanessa. She hates her bastard of a husband and—”
“That’s none of your business,” I roared. Even now, he was making excuses. Just as he’d done after the accident. “I don’t care what she thinks of her husband. He could dance around in her underwear and eat her hair while she’s sleeping and I still wouldn’t give one single damn. Don’t try to defend your actions. I am not interested in excuses. Your time at LSS is done, and I am seriously rethinking if I ever want to see your smug face again. You’ve done nothing but bring chaos into my life. I can’t bear to lose anything else to your carelessness.”
He stilled, meeting me dead in the eye. “You don’t mean that.”
I lowered my chin, regarding him with nothing but ice. “I do.”
He paced in short laps in front of me, pulling at his hair with both hands. “This isn’t right. Doesn’t make sense.” Stopping in his tracks, he turned his head. His eyes were bloodshot and wet. A little wild too. “Who told you? It couldn’t have been Iris. Was it? No, she wouldn’t.”
My fingers clamped on the edge of the granite counter. “Iris?”
Finn shook his head. “No, no, it was Saul. Right. Jaysus. Doesn’t matter, does it? What’s done is done. I’ll make it right, Ronan. I won’t leave it like this. Fire me from LSS, but don’t dismiss me from your life. Don’t do that.” He met my gaze once again. “I’ll make it right.”
Then he was gone without another word, leaving me with the biggest question of them all.Iris knew?
