and turned it into a diamond

Now, my razor edges are my weapon

Leaving bloody boys in shock

Don’t look so surprised

I’m no longer a toy for your eyes

Iris laid her hand flat on the strings of her guitar, glancing around at her band, her chest moving in and out. A pin could have dropped and it would have sounded like an anvil.

“Well?” she breathed, the corner of her mouth quirking. She knew she had them.

With that one word, they flew into action with suggestions, both lyrical and rhythmic. They worked as a team, with even Callum offering a few words of input. Although he glanced my way once, then made sure to speak in a low enough voice, I couldn’t make out what he had to say.

I rubbed a hand over my face and adjusted my pants. My cock throbbed behind my zipper—an involuntary reaction to a sensual action. Iris’s anger and fearlessness punched me in the gut and grabbed me between my legs. My balls ached from being slowly released from her velvet clutches.

This couldn’t stand. I was too old to behave this way, like I had no will of my own. Something in me reacted to something about Iris, but that didn’t mean I had to be steamrolled by it. Time to get my shit together.

The band spent another hour working on the new song, bickering and talking trash, jotting notes down on paper, and finally finding a tune they all agreed on. I took that time to send emails and return a couple calls in the hallway, giving myself some much-needed distance and composure. Midday, after hours of rehearsal, they called it quits. Iris left the same way she’d come, hugging and kissing each man. Even Callum readily accepted her affection.

The band departed separately at my advice, so they didn’t give the paps the opportunity to grab a picture of them all together, which was a hell of a lot more valuable. Iris left last, and there were three photographers waiting to pounce.

She was tired and had already given them their shot this morning, so I wrapped my arm around her, shielding her with my body, and held a hand up to block their lenses. She grumbled, but didn’t try to break away, so I took that as a win. Maybe she was finally allowing me to take care of her as I saw fit.

A wave of satisfaction and pleasure at her cooperation stirred in my chest. I only allowed myself to feel it for a second. Then, the lead weight of my responsibilities and the reality of who we were took over, just like it always did.
