“Who do you lean on?”

I huffed a short laugh into her silky skin. “Seems like you at the moment.”

“I like this. I like you leaning on me.”

“I love you, Boo.” Shit. I hadn’t even meant to say it, but there it was. Words, out there. Heart, bared.

“Alex,” she breathed.

Her embrace became impossibly tighter, but she didn’t return the words. My pulse spiked with disappointment, but I knew it was too soon. Yael wasn’t a soul barer. She kept her heart tucked behind lock and key.

Tugging on her hair, my mouth found hers, and she kissed me back with equal fervor. I loved Yael. I had loved her for a good portion of my life. I wanted like hell to believe that this was it. That we were both fully in this and there’d be no backing out. But the devil burrowed in my shoulder kept whispering I’d never really have her.

She rolled her hips against my growing erection, and any doubts I had left were wiped away as I lost myself in her.
