“Hey, Gabriel, one more thing. If I ask you something, will you answer without asking why?”
“Chances are good I will.”
“Is Tali gonna be there?”
He was quiet for a beat before he answered. “That wasn’t really the direction I would have predicted you going in, but now I regret that I can’t ask why. The answer is yes, Tali will be here. She and Jen usually hang out when we’re all in New York, so the wife is excited to have her.”
“Okay. Well, I’ll see you in a couple days.”
“Wait, was that the right answer?”
“It’s all good, Gabriel. Goodnight.”
Tali never texted or called, and I gave her space, even though my fingers were itching to let her know what I was thinking.
Tonight, I’d let her go. But in Paris, she wouldn’t be getting away.
