“You’re doing it again…” His words trailed off as he picked up my fork.

My lips parted as he slid the fork carrying fluffy eggs into my mouth. The buttery yet salty taste dissolved on my tongue, and I swallowed. “Doing what?” I sliced my eyes back to my plate, playing with the pile of hash browns that were slowly turning cold.

“Spill it. Or I’m going to throw you over my shoulder and spank it out of you,” he said as he shoved eggs past his lips.

“Just wondering why I wasn’t good enough, you know? Like we were together since the beginning of high school. Everyone thought we were perfect together, and we had it all planned out—“

“Can’t plan life. Sorry to break it to you, baby girl.”

“But I need to know why I wasn’t good enough.”

“Do you? Why?” He scooped some more eggs on my fork and waited for my mouth to open.

I chewed with caution, rummaging my brain for an answer to his question. I always thought I’d be the one to dump someone, not the one being cheated and dumped on.

I placed my elbows on the table and pressed my palms into my cheek. “So, I can fix whatever turned him off.”

He crooked a finger, urging me to come closer. Even with the aromas of bacon and salty eggs lingering between us, I still caught a whiff of his masculine scent. It was earthy, with hints of leather. I leaned in until our lips were inches from each other.

“Last time I checked, you weren’t the problem.” He placed a kiss on my cheek and stood, grabbing my plate before walking over to the sink.

I didn’t need a mirror to know my cheeks were now a shade darker, the heat flowing through my body was evident. The sea of muscle rippled with each movement as he cleaned, and I finally snatched my gaze away when a mischievous grin played across his lips.

He cleared his throat and wiped his hands on the raggedy towel that lay over his shoulder. “Are you ready, baby?”

Like a deer in headlights, I came to a blank, my mouth creeping open only for jumbled syllables to crash on the edge of my tongue. “Um, uh…we’ll…” I leaned back in the chair and blew out a breath.

Tilting his chin to the ceiling, he finished off the last of his coffee and put the cup into the basin of soapy water before sauntering over to me. Taking my hand in his, he kneeled between my legs and locked his gaze on me. “I have no plans of letting you go, Cora. I want you, all of you, and I don’t give a damn about what your dad might think.”

“He won’t let me be with you. He’ll probably kill you and disown me. Plus, I’m young and inexperienced in all things adult, and—“

“You need to give yourself more credit. If it wasn’t for you, Dylan would have walked off a cliff by now. You’re the glue keeping everything in his life together. His schedule, the house, the bills…” His words trailed off, and I ran my fingers over the grooves of his watch.

“How do you know that? Are you a low-key stalker?” I joked.

He kept his expression neutral. “Dylan might hate my guts, but he didn’t block me on Facebook yet, so. He makes posts about you all the time. FYI.” He brushed his thumb over the corner of my mouth, wiping away the leftover eggs. “Josh did you a favor because if he hadn’t cheated, I would be on my way back to California right now.”

“Oh…” I let my words trail off and blew out a breath. “I can’t believe I was saving myself for that jerk. I just feel so…”

Before I could finish my sentence, his lips were locked on mine, and for some odd reason, it was a perfect fit. I noticed each kiss was becoming stronger than the next, more soul-sucking, more intense, more intoxicating.

He pulled away, and my fingers grabbed at the soft fabric of his shirt. “I’m happy you saved yourself because I’m going to ruin you over and over again.”

He stood and tugged at the hem of his shirt before pulling it over his head, revealing his wall of taunting Olympian washboard abs. He let his t-shirt drop to the floor. His darkened eyes and wet lips chilled my soul. His footsteps were heavy and slow. He circled me and made my pulse stagger. I swallowed and stilled my movements. He pulled the other chair in front of me and held my gaze as he lowered himself onto it. He tapped his palm against his thigh, with wet lips and spread legs.

He cocked his head. “Come here.”

“You want me to sit on your lap?”.

A wave of heat brewed in my core, not knowing what Brett had planned for me. He looked at me with hunger in his eyes, and a small part of me hoped I could curb his hunger. I got up and took a small step, his hands landed on my waist, tugging me forward. He slipped his fingers under the waistband of my panties, and the muscles in his arms flexed as he tore them to shreds. Out of habit, I shielded myself, and he blocked my action and forced my arms back to my side.

“Stop it.” The strength of his palms sent a wave of electricity zipping down my spine.

I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth. “Stop what?”

“No. You call me daddy.”

“Daddy?” I licked my lips and sliced my eyes to the checkered dishcloth hanging off the edge of the table.
