That’s an experience I’m glad is firmly in my past.

It took a lot of searching and being with the wrong guys to find the absolute right guy. And Brendon’s my right guy, there’s no doubt.

“Who would have thought we’d each find such an unconventional path to marriage?” Liam asks.

“Knowing these women,” Brendon says with a smile, “that’s really not that surprising.”

“What are you saying, dear brother?” Becky smiles sweetly.

“That all four of you—even you, sis—are way too amazingly unique to ever settle for anything that’s boring or normal. Even a wedding ceremony.”

“Thanks…I think,” Becky laughs.

“No, I see what he’s saying,” Lock says. “Besides, would we appreciate our marriages as much if we had had traditional courtships?”

“I think you’re right,” Anton says. “Knowing I almost didn’t have Percy in my life, but that she was fated to be my wife is never lost to me. I love you, my love.”

“Awww,” Percy says as Anton kisses her palm. “I love you, too.”

As Percy and Anton gaze into each other’s eyes, the other three couples follow suit. I smile at Brendon, the kind of smile that’s filled with confidence, knowing that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

And I am. Not just that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with, but that I have the life, the family, and the friends that I’m supposed to have. Even though, truthfully, the people sitting on this Mexican beach with me aren’t my friends.

We stopped being friends long ago. When you get into gunfights with drug lords with someone, you become family.

When you help someone commit a crime by stealing fighting lobsters from an underground lobster fighting arena, you become family.

When you walk in on your fiancé—or fiancée, for that matter—banging a bunch of dudes the night before your wedding, you become family.

These wonderful, amazing people became my family a long time ago. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even though our crazier adventures are behind us, I would go on any adventure any of them were up to.

And if something happened and they needed rescuing, I’d be the first one to hop on a plane.

Just like I know they’d do the same for me.

That’s what family does.

“All of this lovey-dovey talk deserves a toast,” Lock says.

He reaches into his bag and pulls out a bottle of tequila.

“I found this at that little shop down the street.”

Sammi brings out cups as Lock opens the bottle and starts pouring a shot for everyone.

“The owner said it was locally brewed,” he says. “Something about the agaves here, or the local water? It’s supposed to be an unforgettable drinking experience.”

“Unforgettable?” Percy asks as she takes a cup. “That’s what usually gets us in trouble, Lock.”

“Don’t be such a scaredy-cat,” I say, grabbing a cup for me and one for Brendon. “It’s one drink…what could happen?”

With all of our drinks poised in the air, we look at each other for reassurance before taking a sip.

“Justonedrink?” Becky asks everyone, just to be sure.

“Just one drink,” Anton says as everyone nods in agreement and starts drinking. “What's the worst that could happen, right?”
