Chapter 15

Mysti May

SATURDAY 11:45 AM

“Well, honey,” Percy says, rubbing my back. “Look at it this way: this has got to be the worst of it, right? I mean, think about it—what else could possibly go wrong?”

I furiously look around for wood to knock on. Just my luck, though, that this hotel has a sleek, modern exterior created almost entirely out of metal and glass.

God, I desperately hope she’s right. Because where I’m standing on the curb in front of the Royale hotel, how much worse can it possibly get?

Our rental car is slammed into a pole. And it’s on fire. And if I was betting on this little scene, I’d bet that we didn’t pop for the insurance when we rented it.

Glancing to my right, I see an extremely angry hotel manager talking to one of the firemen. I do my best to blend in with all the glass and steel. Getting arrested would definitely make the morning worse, so I guess Percy’s right in that regard.

I reach into my pocket and feel for the wedding ring we found upstairs. Twisting it between my fingers, I think back to one of the few details I remember from last night—getting married.

Most of the evening’s events are still a big black hole to me, but I do recall the wedding ceremony now.

The feel of Brendon’s cock is etched in my memory, not to mention all along the walls of my cunt. I can still feel as clear as day Brendon’s cock filling me up as he bent me over Elvis’ pink Cadillac.

I’ve wanted him for so long, fantasized about him even.

There’s always that fear that the real deal will let you down. Well, the real thing kicked the fantasy’s ass. God help me, if I didn’t have a conversation with Norbert looming in my future, I’d track Brendon down and go back in for seconds.

“So, I got the low-down from the cute little valet over there,” Sammi says as she walks up to Percy and me while we continue to stare at the burning car.

She turns to grant the teenage valet a little wave of appreciation.

“And?” I ask, a little sharper than I intended.

“We dropped off the car at about half past nine last night, but he wasn’t working then so he couldn’t tell me who was driving.”

“We dropped it off?” I ask. “So we weren’t the ones to drive it into the pole?”

Sammi just shrugs. “I can only tell you what I know.”

“Anything else?” Percy asks.

Yes, I’ll take any little tidbit of information I can get at this point.

“Oh, yeah,” Sammi says like she just remembered. “I talked to that sexy fireman over there. He said they were called over this morning, and it’s been burning since dawn.”

Got to admit—that’s more than a little tidbit of information. That’s fucking impressive. Sammi has always been able to bat her eyes and get men to do her bidding.

She’s outdone herself this time, though. While it’s not rock-solid, it sounds like as awful as this is, it’s not our fault. I doubt the rental car company will see it that way, though.

Unfortunately, though, that’s all the information we’re going to get from this rental car. My fantastic idea of rummaging through the car and discover a minute-by-minute account of last night—far-fetched, I know—is going up in smoke before my eyes.

“If we leave now, the firemen promised not to mention that they saw us to the cops,” Sammi says.

Yes, her flirting skills are legendary.

“Speaking of cops,” Becky says as she joins us, “I did a little digging and discovered that this badge is not real.”

We’re all looking at her as she holds up the police badge when Percy voices what we’re all thinking.

“No shit, it’s not real.”
