“Yes, of course, I want to know!”

“Well, it’d be better if I showed you actually,” I admit.

“Brendon, seriously? Why can’t you just tell me?”

“Just come with me.” I walk over to the bike and straddle it. “Do you trust me?”

“Uh…I guess.” She hesitantly walks over.

“Get on, Mysti. At least this way I can be with you, and not just in the nick of time. And you’ll be able to solve one of the mysteries, so you can finally fucking remember what happened the other night.” I reach my hand out to hers.

She doesn’t say anything, but she looks down and nods. Grabbing my hand, she straddles the bike and wraps her arms around my waist, steadying herself.

“Let’s go. Show me,” she whispers in my ear.

“Stay close to me,” I instruct her while putting my helmet back on.

And as I start the engine and prop us both up on the bike, I realize that I’ll have to stay just as close to her, maybe even closer. Because now, her life could be in danger and I have a sinking feeling that it won’t only be those maniacs in the white Cadillac who I’ll have to protect her from.
