He whips his head around at me and glares at me. “Don’t fucking move.”

He gets out of the helicopter and bends down to collect his phone. I take advantage of this moment and quickly move, but as I do, I see a man coming up behind him.

The next thing I know, a baseball bat slams into the back of Alphonso’s head, and he falls forward, landing on top of his precious phone.

I look up to see who saved me.

It’s Brendon.

“Mysti!” he cries out, and I leap over Alphonso towards him.

Brendon catches me, dropping the bat on Alphonso’s limp body. Holding me, he moves us away from the helicopter, and I wrap my legs around him, clutching onto him for dear life.

He’s here. He actually came to my rescue.

“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” he asks and cradles my head, smoothing over my hair and inspecting me.

“I’m fine now that you’re here,” I admit.

It’s cheesy, but it’s true. It’s very clear that I couldn’t beat Alphonso off alone.

Brendon smiles and lets out a sigh. “Thank fucking god,” he says, and his lips land on mine.

I coil around him, never wanting him to let me go, and our skin burns against each other. Our kisses grow hungrier and more passionate than the last.

It’s like he lit the fireworks in me, and they’re exploding all around us, lighting up the world, showing me places that I never thought I’d be able to see— let alonewantto see.

He squeezes onto me, tugging at my skin.

“I’m so fucking relieved,” he pants.

“I’m so happy you came. Thank you.” I look into his eyes, saying these words with every bit of sincerity in me.

I want him to always be here, right here, in my arms. This is where I feel safe.

He pulls me in for another kiss, and my legs loosen their grip, still feeling as if I’m on air.

Once my feet hit the ground, another flashback hits me, and all of a sudden, I remember how I spent last night…
