Amelia squeezed Kay’s hand in a death grip and took a deep, dramatic breath, making Kay roll her eyes. Her sister said, "I call a forecasting witch and a wayfaring captain. Employ your sextant and your cast iron cauldron."

"Nice rhyming," Corrine commented sarcastically before Amelia shot her a warning glare.

"Direct the union this witch desires." Amelia released Kay's hand and pinched a bit of sugar from the tiny bowl she had in her lap and held it over a candle. "And create the embers that stoke the fires."

When she released the sugar on the flame, it sparked with color in a tiny firework display that made Bri squeal, and then the toddler lunged toward the candles.

"No!" Kay cried out, grabbing her baby sister before she could burn herself, and as she did, she knocked over her juice. She snatched the heavy goblet up quickly, saving a bit of the liquid, but the rest spread out in a dark stain on the carpet. "Darn it."

Bri burst into tears, and Kay lifted her onto her chest to soothe her. “Shhhh, it’s okay.”Is it though?Kay wondered as Amelia let out a frustrated sigh.

"It's fine,” Amelia said. “Everyone, drink your juice."

"Wait!" Corinne cried out. "Kay doesn't have enough."

"Of course, I do." Kay lifted her drink, but Corinne grabbed it from her hand.

"No, you don't." Corinne refilled her twin's glass. "For all we know you'd only get a crush with so little juice. And you want love. Right, Amelia?"

Amelia nodded. "Yes. You should drink a whole glass full."

Kay rolled her eyes and set Bri down in her lap. She thought about Tucker and the way his eyes twinkled when he got an answer right in class, then she drank her juice. She focused on the sweet taste and wondered if she really was meant to be with her very first crush.

Bri held out her goblet toward Amelia with two chubby hands. "Mo! Mo!"

"All gone," Kay said as she stood up and lifted little Bri in her arms.

Smoke swirled up from the candles just as they heard, "Amelia!" It was Jimmy Foster, and he sounded like he was on the floor below them. "Where are you?"

Kay looked at her sisters as fear that the spell really had worked filled her.

"Oh my god!" Corinne squealed. "It worked!"

"Shhh!" Amelia said. "He came over to play Mario Kart."

Relief filled Kay. She wasn’t ready for Tucker to actually pay attention to her yet.

"You guys,” Amelia said with a look of her own panic on her face. It was valid, because they didn’t need Jimmy finding out what they’d done. “I—"

"We've got it," Corinne said. She hunched up her shoulders and with a dreamy look said, "Anything for true love."

"Thanks. I owe you one," Amelia said.

Kay bounced Bri on her hip, not so enamored with what they’d just done. "You sure do. Mom's going to freak when she sees the juice stain on the carpet."

"I'll get it out later. I swear."

"Amelia!" Jimmy's voice was louder, making Kay think he was about to climb the attic steps.

"Go!" Corinne hissed.

Once Amelia was gone, Corinne grabbed Bri out of Kay’s hands and twirled around in a circle with her. “We’ve got love on the horizon, Bri-bri!”

Kay smiled at them, letting herself get excited about the fact she should end up happily married. She pictured Tucker dropping down on his knee in a black silk cape with a purple lining. But it didn’t look right in her mind, and she chuckled to herself as she put him back in a pressed dress shirt with his hair swooping perfectly over his forehead as he gazed up at her with love in his eyes.

“Look at you,” Corinne said, pulling Kay from her fantasies. She taunted, “You’re so dreaming about Tucker.”

Kay taunted her twin back. “Maybe I am.”
