Now it was Kay who was panicked. She had no desire to find out what Celia had in mind for fun. “We don’t want trouble. I’m here to help usher you to a world where you can be reunited with your loved ones.”

Nora said, “Margaret. I’m so sorry about Jeffrey. But you can be with him again. Let Kay help.”

Celia chuckled.“That old curmudgeon?”She mocked a yawn.“Bo-ring. Margaret can have him.”The spirit floated around the circle and began to sing a song about her broken heart, and Kay noticed the sound was now present for everyone in the room.

Tucker’s face paled, but Nora smiled and asked, “Isn’t her voice lovely?”

“It really is,” Kay agreed. “I’m sure your loved ones are missing it,” she said to Celia, who was hovering above Tucker.

Tucker looked up as worry filled his face.

“So, you want this guy to like you?”Celia asked.

“Yes,” Kay said.

Celia let out a sigh with enough force to ruffle Tucker’s hair, and the man inhaled sharply.“But he’s such a coward. Really, Kay, you could do so much better. Like say, that dreamboat Damon Brannigan who’s lurking outside.”

“What?” Anger began to simmer in Kay and overshadowed her annoyance at Celia. Why in the devil had Damon followed her there? What was that man after? And why on earth did he think the Knights would give it to him after all this time?

Tucker gulped, making Kay shake her head.

“Damon thinks you need his help.”Celia let out a loud cackle that filled the room. Tucker let go of Nora’s and Kay’s hands and rushed toward the stairs. “And he’s right.”Celia flew out of the attic, shrieking loudly, and followed Tucker as he raced down the stairs.

Damon

Damon watchedOfficer Tucker Eagan as he slammed the door of his cruiser and grabbed the radio as if… Well, as if a ghost was chasing him. Celia Davis, a spirit with whom Damon was friendly, followed the police officer as he ran out of Nora Lang’s house, and she was hovering in the doorway watching Tucker. Damon chuckled and walked over to her as Kay came out of the house, too.

Kay glared at Damon. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll stay out of this.”

He held up his hands. “I wouldn’t dream of ruining a thing.”

The light on the police cruiser began to flash blue, and Kay let out a huff. “I’ll be right back,” she said as she walked toward the car.

Damon contained his laughter and turned his attention to the spirit. “Who is this beautiful creature? Celia, my love, you’re more gorgeous than ever.”

“Damon,”the spirit cooed as she cocked a hip and ran her hands down the side of her body. She floated back from the doorway of the house as if she were inviting him in.“You flatterer. You’ve grown into that charm of yours. It’s a pity you’re still alive. But we can still have fun.”

“I was hoping you’d say that.” He glanced over his shoulder to see Kay was in the cruiser talking to Tucker. “Now,” he said, flashing Celia his sexiest smile, “I believe Kay might need my help to send you on your merry way. Don’t you think?”

Celia squinted at him. “What are you up to?”

He lowered his voice to make sure Kay couldn’t hear them. “I want to cash in on this ghost hunting gig Kay is running.”

“She’s not doing it for money.”

“I know. She’s after Officer Tucker Eagan.”

“Yes, she is. I’m not sure why, though. He’s a bit of a wimp when it comes to ghosts. She laughed loudly enough that he feared Tucker and Kay might have heard her.

“Be nice,” Damon said. “We need Kay for my plan.”

“What are you cooking up?”Celia gave him a sly smile.

“How would you like to be my star spirit in my new reality series about ghost hunting?”

“Big screen or TV?”
