Blaze ... Brooklynn looks around the floor for her. As I open mouth to tell her it’s on the table in the hall, it starts to ring again.

I hear her answer the call then her feet padding up the hall.

Kennedy appears in the doorway. I keep trying to tell her she doesn’t have to make up the days she takes off, but she refuses to listen. She took Friday off so she’s here working today.

“Did you want Chef to prepare breakfast for both you and ...?” she inquires.

I laugh at her not-so-veiled attempt to figure out who the woman is.

“Not yet. I don’t know if she’s staying for breakfast or anything else,” I add as an aside to myself. “Kennedy, that is Brooklynn Emory. I’ll formally introduce you if this becomes more than what it was. I’ll be down shortly. I’m going to take a shower. Please ask Patrick to pull the sheets.”

She nods then walks towards the door. I snort because I know she wants to pick the clothes up from the floor. I take my time heading to the bathroom. One, to torture Kennedy. Two, waiting to see when Brooklynn will return. After five minutes, I head to the bathroom to wash the night off.

Chapter 18

Brooklynn

––––––––

Savannah, GA May 6– Saturday morning

The phone call was important. I’m freaking out. I rush back to the room to let Daire know I need to leave. When I get back to his room, he’s not there. The Kennedy woman is there.

“Um ... where’s Mr. Shaw?” I ask her.

“He’s in the shower. He wanted to get cleaned up. It usually doesn’t take him long. I’m sure he’ll be out any minute.”

A pang of jealousy washes over me. I feel possessive of him, and I shouldn’t.

Even though the two of you had sex multiple times last night?

I ignore that thought.

“I wish I could, but I can’t. I’m going to leave him a note. Thank you.”

I rush out of the room and back to the office I’d found earlier. Jotting down a quick note with my number included, I rush back to the room, toss on my discarded clothes then remember Daire shredded my panties.

“Guess I’m going ass out.”

I toss Daire’s button-down shirt back over my body and make my exit. I don’t know where either of the people went so, I rush out the first door I find. I’m happy to find, I guessed right, and it leads me out the front.

My feet can't carry me fast enough. I need to get to her. When I saw the name of a hospital crossing the screen on my phone, I knew I had to answer. As soon as I picked up, I realized I had to leave. I'm the emergency contact for exactly one person. I know it was about her. It was just a matter of finding out what exactly happened.

The person on the phone told me Journee was in hospital. He wouldn't give me any details; just told me I was on her emergency contact list. The hospital wasn't far from Daire’s house. As my good fortune would have it, the person who drove us last night was standing near the car as I rushed out of the house.
