It’s something.

“Yep, Mom and I had fun.”

“So, I hear.” He turns back to Skyler. “And I heard you’ve been having quite a lot of fun in D.C.” He raises an eyebrow and looks at the man lingering behind us. “Preston Mitchell.” He takes a step forward and holds his hand out to meet Aidan.

Confident and calm, Aidan reaches his hand forward. “Aidan Reed. It’s nice to meet you, sir. I’ve heard a lot of great things about you, both from Skyler and at CGU. Your name comes up quite often.” He smiles and nods his head respectfully.

“Uh huh, my sources tell me you’re a teacher there. A doctor, if I’m not mistaken.”

“Dad…” Skyler shoots him a look and he shoots her one back.

“Skyler?” Don’t start, his eyes warn.

She rolls her own eyes and goes to stand next to Aidan. “Not after this semester.”

“Mmmhmm. Well, I have quite a few questions for you two, but I want to see your mother, and I need to check my messages. Seems I got a bunch while we were in the air.” He pulls his tie off and reaches for his luggage. “Lan, make yourself at home,” he says before he’s up the stairs.

After a few moments, Skyler smiles and bounces in place. “Hi!” She scurries towards Landon and wraps her arms around him. “I’m Skyler. I know we’ve met in passing a few times, but I’m glad to officially meet you.” She backs away after a beat and I know for a fact Landon is definitely overwhelmed. “I’m the cooler sister,” she giggles.

“I don’t know, your sister is pretty cool.” He winks at me, and I smile in return.

“This is Aidan, my boyfriend.” Skyler beams up at him as the two men shake hands and I swear I’m the only person who doesn’t find this totally strange.

“Okay, as cute as all of this is, what are you doing here? Can’t we just stick to the initial plan that was me coming over later?”

He shakes his head as he moves closer to me, his eyes hungry and pinning me to my spot, making me shiver with need. “Your dad asked and I had no reason to say no.” He looks over his shoulder towards the master staircase briefly before his hands find my face. “Hi, beautiful.” His lips press against mine so sweet and gentle it makes me melt. When I pull back, my face is bright red as I remember that we aren’t alone in the room. “Landon…” I fiddle nervously with my glasses and gesture towards Aidan and my sister, and she scoffs.

“You literally watched us make out for an hour.”

“I didn’t watch, but you two need a hose turned on you.”

You’re one to talk, Serena.

“Come on, let’s go, honey. Evidently, they need privacy,” she tells Aidan as they head towards the den that is just off the main living area.

“God, I missed you.” The crinkles form around his eyes and his smile makes me feel like warm honey is moving through my veins. When Landon’s eyes are on me, I feel cherished and special and loved, more so than I ever have in my life. “And I missed your pussy,” he growls in my ear. “I’ve been starved for you and the chance to see you was too tempting to pass up, even if I have to behave.” He brushes his nose against my neck and inhales. “I hate sleeping without you, by the way,” he murmurs in my ear.

“Me too.”

“Have you given any thought to living with me next year?”

My eyes widen and I look around the room, trying to alert him of our surroundings in the off chance he forgot that we are in my parents’ living room. “Landon, now is really not the time.”

“Later.” He kisses me again and his tongue begins to probe my lips demanding access when I hear a loud bang and someone barreling fast down the stairs. What the? I pull away from him instantly and wipe my mouth, grateful that I had foregone lipstick tonight.

“ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?!” my father roars as he makes his way towards us, and instinctively, though my father would never lay a hand on me, Landon steps in front of me, shielding me from his wrath.

Oh shit. What? How? I look around the room for a second wondering if they’ve installed cameras I didn’t know about and they saw us kissing.

“P—” My father looks absolutely murderous and his level of anger shocks me.

“Dad…” Skyler appears back in the room, probably having heard what was about to go down.

“Skyler, go.” He points at the door. “You and Aidan, go somewhere.” He points at the door.

Skyler looks at me, and I nod at her, letting her know we’d be okay, and she mouths I’m sorry.

My father’s face is bright red, his blonde hair sticking straight up as his heavy breathing slows before he takes a step towards us. “Get away from her, Landon. So, help me God, I will put a fist through your face.”
