“I don’t care, what the fuck? Will is pissed by the way.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re family! And because I’m pissed. Fucking fuckboy.”

“So, you know all the details then?”

“I don’t know much about her; Will says it’s ‘not our business,’” she says using her therapist voice that she uses when she’s imitating him.

“So, he hasn’t met her?” I lean against the refrigerator, hating the pitiful sound of my voice, but also wanting to know everything.

“No.”

“How are you?” I ask, wanting to change the subject.

She sighs and I half expect to hear the latest Diana Montgomery drama but she squeals instead. “I’m getting married in twenty-seven days! I never thought I could be so happy. I have a baby and I love Will so much. He’s actually perfect. I would be annoyed if I didn’t get to benefit from said perfection.” She giggles and I grab the bottle of wine from the counter and pour myself a small glass. I’m happy for Charley. She’s been to hell and back in the last year and deserves this happily ever after.

I’m just hoping mine isn’t far behind.

“Is it going to be weird being paired up with Drew? I can have you girls walk down the aisle separately.” I can hear the concern in her voice, and instantly I’m reminded of one of the reasons I love Charley so much. She is as selfless as they come and I know if I tell her I don’t want to see Drew’s face let alone walk down the aisle with him, she’d find a way to have him banned from the wedding. Charley goes hard for the people she loves, and she loves me.

“No, whatever you want, Charley. It’s your day.” I try my best to sound convincing, but I can hear the hurt in my voice, and I know she can hear it too.

“Shut up. I’m changing it. I’m not about to have Drew have my best girl upset.”

“Can you just not give him a plus one?” I chuckle, halfkidding.

“Done.”

“Wait…I’m kidding.”Sort of.

“I’m not. He’s not bringing some ho to my wedding that will be irrelevant in two minutes. Please!”

I hear a deep voice in the background followed by Charley’s voice. “Well, she is! Babe, he’s not going to marry her and I don’t want any awkwardness on our wedding day. It’s already going to be a struggle keeping our mothers apart.”

I wince hearing about their moms and their very frenemy type relationship. “Ooh, still trouble in paradise?”

“I swear Will’s mom and my mom are going to drive me insane.”

“Phew, your in-laws.” I sigh. “You sure you’re ready for this?”

“I just had his baby; I can’t leave him now!”

She squeals again. “Ouch! That actually hurt, Will.” She chuckles.

“Talk about leaving me again.” I hear him and then a loud kiss. “Hey Lauren,” he says loud and clear and I realize I must be on speakerphone.

“Hot Doc,” I respond with a laugh using my nickname for him as the microwave beeps and I pull my chicken out.

“I’m sorry about my brother…” He trails off.

“You don’t have to apologize, but thank you.”

“You’re still family to me, you know that right?”

I roll my eyes. Will is always getting sentimental; I guess it’s the therapist in him. “I mean yeah, I get Ana if you two die, right?”

Charley laughs and Will sighs into the phone. “You are the lesser of two evils, I suppose.”
