“I don’t know. He’s coming here soon to pick me up for dinner. Look, I have to get changed, and once he’s here, you can meet him, and we’ll see what happens, okay?”

“Okay. He won’t tell the Captain about me?”

“Not to worry. If he doesn’t help us, he won’t turn us in. That’s for sure.”

Rylee patted his shoulder and then grabbed a fresh lilac summer dress and lacy undies to match and headed for the shower.

“If anyone comes to the door, don’t let them in. If it sounds like they’re a crew member, head for the closet.”

“Okay, Rylee.”

No sooner had she started washing her hair, she heard a commotion out in her stateroom, probably Carlos delivering the refreshments she’d ordered to try and get Jake in a good mood. Hopefully, Miguel was able to hide, not that she was worried about Carlos finding him. After all, he knew all about Miguel.

Miguel heard the knock at the door and panicked. He fled to the closet and yanked the dresses out of the way so he could get behind them. That’s when one of Rylee’s purses fell from the top shelf and a bunch of her stuff dropped everywhere. Scooping things up quickly, he barely slid the door closed before footsteps sounded in the outer room.

He could hear movement and what sounded like a tray being set on the table with something glass being set down separately. Within a few moments, the person left the room and Miguel could breathe again.

He slowly slid back the door and started putting the fallen items into Rylee’s bag. The last thing he picked up was a bulky folding wallet and without having any intentions of snooping, he opened it to see the photo of his new best friend.
