While the waiters placed their dishes in front of them, he added, sarcasm rampant, “I’ve no doubt she adores you even more for your sisterly love.”
In a more serious tone, she replied, “Surprisingly, she does.”
They were halfway through their steak and lobster, and though she only sipped her wine, they had just poured him a second glass when Rylee came to attention, listening as if she heard voices. He watched the instantaneous change.
She looked up at him and spoke, a positive statement he couldn’t refute.
“Something’s wrong, we need to get back to your cabin.”
“How do you know?”
She held up her phone, the screen now blank.
