“Come on, sissy.” He used a pet name that always made her smile. “You know I’ll win. I always do. It’s why I own the biggest security firm in Florida. I don’t have to tell you how unique we are and why all the best companies want our expertise. You know yourself how busy I’ve been. But never too busy to look after my family. I’ll bring Jack and Casey back to you, I promise.”

He hugged her close and marveled at how strong a woman she’d become from the little girl who used to follow him around. Being only two years older, he let her hang out some of the time. But he put his foot down when they were teenagers and he was embroiled in getting with as many girls who’d open their young arms to the handsome kid with the flirty ways. His big brown eyes and slick tongue were so convincing, most didn’t resist and the ones who did, he usually ignored.

Once she’d wiped up from her latest breakdown, he settled her back in a chair and made her listen. “I’m not going to be out front on this one. I want to stay covert. Therefore, I won’t meet your agent today. I’ll hang out in the other room, watching the monitor. The less he knows about me, the less likely there’ll be any trail to alert Manos.”

“Manos thinks you’re still in Tehran. Or at least that’s what he believed last week.”

“Then let’s hope he still believes it. There’s no trace of my return. If he’s keeping watch over my footsteps, he won’t find anything. In the meantime, I’ll be a shadow for your agent.”

When the maid let her know that Agent Dunne had arrived, Sam turned on the cameras he’d placed around the room and then hightailed it to the den to watch on the monitor.

“Hello. I’m Special Agent Sophia Dunne. I’m here to help you recover your children.”

Maureen stood and greeted her guest with a handshake and her public face well in place. She handled the shock of being approached by a gorgeous, tall, long-legged beauty with glowing silver hair quite well.
