Thank God!

Her eyes had filled during her rush to get away and the wail that had been building broke loose the minute she’d closed herself inside.

Falling to her knees, she wrapped her arms around her stomach and held on. Tension eased as her loud cries were released and turned into sobs.

Unexpectedly, she began to fall forward, her last thought was wishing she hadn’t been so quick in spurning the man who’d cared.

When she came awake, she had no idea how long she’d lain there on the bed. What? How did she get here… in her own room? At this point, time was a mystery. Should she be afraid? She was. Terrified.

She cuddled into a ball and whispered words escaped her distress. “Poor little baby. You never signed up for this craziness, did you? Don’t be scared, my little love. I’ll take care of you. Mommy’s here.”

A voice sounded from the male shadow in the corner. “I’m here too. No, don’t look so worried, sugar. It’s just me, Agent Storm.”
