“And Kane’s yours, right?” His stare infiltrated the dim light, and she didn’t try to repudiate his claim. Why would she have shown up if Kane’s safety hadn’t been the reason?

“Okay, okay. I admit, I’m a worrywart busybody for the people who matter. But I’m also an agent with the FBI, have my own weapons, and know how to work with others. What do you need?”

Suddenly, Lance pulled his phone out and cursed. “Shit! The boss’s gonna be pissed that I didn’t answer his last text.” His thumb flew over the keys while he sent a reply.

“You’re not telling him I’m here, are you? It’ll mess with him.”

“I’ll get my ass kicked for keeping your secret, but no… I didn’t say anything.”

Knowing she could be pushing Lance too far, she still demanded to know. “What did he say?”

“The Commander in charge of the whole white supremacist movement… I’m talking across the country here… has kept us waiting for days, and he still hasn’t arrived. Kane’s furious about this.”

“Guess he won’t be for long because I’m here now. Drop your weapons.”
