I made another call, this time to an ambulance. “I’m at Dave’s Garage and just checked on the owner, he must have had an accident. He’s slumped over a car with a broken nose and is unconscious.”

“Okay, sir, help is on the way,” the dispatcher started but I already hung up. They had GPS locations, they knew where I was and I needed Nyx out of the way. Hurrying over, I hoisted him into my arms and rushed to the truck. It wasn’t easy but I managed to get him as gently as possible into the truck bed before hopping in and slamming my hand into the steering wheel as I screamed out my frustration.

She’s fucking gone.

I’d failed her. Fuck, I had to find her before he did something to her. My hands tangled in my hair and gripped, the pain grounding me enough that I could breathe again. Now wasn’t the time to freak out, it was the time to get my shit together and find my girl.

I couldn’t drive as quickly as I wanted, worried I’d accidentally toss the poor wolf out of the back and onto the pavement. Then Vanya would really kick my ass when we got her back. Not if…when.

The gates opened as I passed, and I threw the truck in park. The twins were already grabbing Nyx from the back and he was in the triage room by the time I met Callum inside. He shot me a sympathetic look, knowing damn well that I was beating the shit out of myself over this. Truthfully getting here was enough of a distraction, but now that I saw him, and was about to face this, it all hit.

She needed us and we let her get taken. We were forced to watch, paralyzed and powerless, as she ran for her life. But I was so fucking proud of her in that moment. She didn’t hesitate to run, to try and get away.

“Tell me we have some kind of lead?” I begged him. Desperation colored my words and I clenched my fists as I waited for an answer. We weren't keeping it together well, I knew it, but I didn’t give a fuck. She was all that mattered.

“Nothing.” His anger was boiling so close to the edge that fur was sprouting along his hands and forearms. He stopped and took a few deep breaths before continuing. “Ava said they were knocked out when transported. She saw outside only a handful of times but it was warm, the air salty.”

“Fuck, that only cuts out the middle of the fucking country,” I growled. “Where we happen to be.”

“My thoughts exactly. We’re flying blind here, but I put out an alert to every alpha on my contact list. They’re checking in with law enforcement, cameras, leads, anything. It’ll be days before I hear from most of them though,” he said, punching the wall hard. The drywall buckled under it but he just shook it off and continued to pace.

“We have to find her,” I argued.

“You think I don’t fucking know that?!” He yelled back. Neither of us were mad at each other, we were fucking desperate so we let it drop there.

“I might have an idea,” Emma said as she walked in. Her brothers and Ava flanked her now and her hands shook. “We need Antonio to look into the pack that took me. Contacts and contracts. I have a feeling it will lead us to our kidnappers.”

“And why is that?” I demanded. Her weary eyes met mine.

“Because trading for mates isn’t the worst thing out there, Leven. And the pack we were born in wasfarworse,” she said evenly. “We have to find her. Now.”
