“Our pack is a big topic of gossip among the others in the area,” Callum admitted. The way his cheeks tinted pink had me glancing at Leven who just snorted.

“Not the alpha groupies,” he groaned. “We just got rid of them a few months ago.”

“No, they’re not coming.” Callum laughed. “But everyone has heard about the pack living in mansions and a gated community. I have a feeling everyone thinks we eat off of golden plates and piss money.”

“That’s one hell of an image to paint, thanks for that,” I said with a startled laugh. “But as long as they’re actually worthy in a fight, I guess it’s cool.”

“They better be,” Callum said. “I’m not buying tickets until they arrive and pass inspection.”

“Inspection?” I asked. “Do I even want to know what the test is?”

“You already passed it,” Leven said as he gestured at the obstacle course behind me. “If they’re strong enough to get past that and can hold their own with weapons and claws, then I’ll declare them worthy.”

“You’re kind of intimidating. I can’t wait to watch this,” I mused. “But remember we don’t want to send them running away. We need them. The sooner we have answers, the better.”

“Yeah, yeah, woman. Now let’s go steal snacks before Emma bans me from all food,” Leven grumbled. Even as he pretended to be annoyed, he couldn’t help but smirk. The man was infuriatingly sexy.

“I’m off to check in on Nyx. I’ll send him your way,” Callum promised before he pulled me in for a kiss. It was the toe-curling kind, and he chuckled when he released me as I wobbled on my feet. “Thanks for that, little wolf. It helps with the stress.”

“I have plenty of ways to help with stress,” I promised. He grinned at that, a bit of his old charm coming through. It was nice to see it again.

“Good. Then I say we have a date in our future with the playroom. I haven’t had a chance to really treat you to a play night,” he joked. My pussy clenched at the thought, and he walked away at that moment, knowing damn well he was working me up just to leave me wanting.

That man was a fucking menace. Now all I’d be thinking about today was being tied down and deliciously tortured for his own personal amusement. Actually, he wasn’t a menace, he was perfect. Because that sounded amazing to me.

“Good, he needs a release,” Leven said without a hint of jealousy. I wrapped my arm around his as we walked toward the pavilion.

“We all do. I know this trip is for a good reason, but we are taking a night for just us. Empty wells don’t produce water and we deserve to take a break if it’s presented. Plus, I doubt our plane tickets and this meeting will line up perfectly,” I said.

“No arguments here,” Leven agreed. “I’ve always wanted to travel.”

“You’ve never traveled?” I asked like I wasn’t the exact same. Well, barring the recent travel. It was hardly for pleasure.

“Nope,” he agreed. “Not outside of moving around with the pack. We didn’t tend to migrate to big cities. It was strictly the countryside and forests. Are you a world traveler?” He raised his eyebrow, knowing me well enough to know I wasn’t.

“You know I’m not.” I laughed. “But we’re about to be.” He chuckled at that as he pulled me inside the kitchen to steal snacks from Emma. I may have been sore and exhausted, but this was the most hope I’d had in a while. We had plans set in place now, people to protect our pack, and even our pack was ready for anything. He may be coming for us but we’d be ready next time.

“Being on this side of the course isn’t so bad,” I noted as I sipped the lemonade Emma had brought in. She grinned over at me and tapped her cookie against mine.

“Couldn’t agree more,” she said around a bite of chocolate chip.

“This isn’t a show,” Leven said with a frustrated sigh. His annoyance wasn’t at us but the wolves who’d shown up as prospects. Half of them walked in with the wide eyes of tourists, taking in our ‘unique’ pack. The rest looked reluctant at best. Not exactly reassuring for a group we’d leave behind to keep our fucking pack safe.

“Get up there!” Leven barked out. The younger guy who was side-eyeing the climbing wall, turned and stalked forward, standing off with our warrior.

“Ooooh, he’s got balls,” Emma noted. I laughed as her eyes slid down his naked, sweaty chest. “And he’s delicious.”

They faced off against each other before the new guy finally broke. “I’ve been through this course five times. I’m fucking done. And if I was chasing an enemy, I would shift. I could scale that wall in seconds as a wolf,” he challenged.

“Then shift,” Leven challenged without skipping a beat. “Let’s see it, Hadrian.”

“I told you I go by Hades,” he growled before shifting on the spot. It was an impressive show of magic, though now his clothes lay on the ground in tatters.

“Girl,” Emma muttered. “Call me a cougar because he’s like twenty-five at best and I’m mid-thirties, but holy fuck that man could destroy me.” The wolf started to run but turned and looked right at Emma who blushed an intense shade of red. He let out a small huff before bounding across the field. He was one hundred percent putting on a show for my friend because he practically flew through the obstacle course. His leap over the climbing wall had both of us cheering before he stopped right in front of Leven. He shifted back and Emma blushed even harder and nearly choked on air. Hades threw a wink her way before steeling his face and glaring at Leven. They matched in height, though the younger man wasn’t quite as bulky as my mate.
