With my heart slamming in my chest, I searched on the phone’s browser for the Dixon Police Department. I knew Callum had allies on the force so I prayed one of them would answer.

“Sheriff’s office,” someone answered on the first ring. I didn’t recognize the voice, but then again I’d never really met the police there. I’d been too busy hiding from the asshole tracker.

“This might sound crazy, but I’ve been missing from the Bluffs for a few days—” I started, but he cut me off, voice low like he didn’t want to be overheard.

“Callum’s girl? Shit, why are you calling here? He’s losing his mind over you,” he hissed into the phone.

“Same, but when I was attacked, I lost my phone and their numbers,” I admitted. “Please, I need you to have him call me here.” Zoey supplied the number and he agreed, telling me he’d call over right now. We stared in silence at the phone, and it rang a moment later. I answered without thinking and Callum’s voice had a sob breaking free.

“Vanya?!” He paused while I tried to speak but I couldn’t get myself together. Zoey grabbed Grant and pulled him from the room, giving me privacy. “Little wolf. Gods. Where are you?”

“California,” I finally managed to get my shit together enough to answer him. “He somehow used magic to get me to a cabin. I escaped and ran for days. Another pack finally caught me because I was so fucking tired and worn down. But they’re good. They’ve lost someone too, like Meira and Ava… and me.”

“Holy hell…” he breathed. I could hear him moving, keys rustling and the zipper on a backpack shifting. “I’m coming, I need an address. Gods. Are you okay though?”

“I am,” I promised. “But I don’t want them to get hurt.”

“Are they willing to let you stay?” he asked bluntly. “They know the risks, right? No alpha worth a shit would turn you away.”

“She wants me to stay,” I admitted. “Zoey is their alpha, she’s the one who convinced me to come.”

“We’re coming for you, little wolf. Stay safe for me until then,” he said firmly. “I love you, Vanya.” At the sound of those words, I froze. But then I realized I didn’t care if we’d only known each other for several months, we had a connection that went deeper than most. I’d been ridiculous to hold back from them for so long.

“I love you too,” I whispered, knowing I felt it in my soul. “Come get me, Callum. Something big is going on and I can’t do this alone.”

“You’ll never fight alone,” he promised. And there was enough conviction in his words to settle some of the panic that had been plaguing me. “Give the phone to Zoey so I can get her information, please. Stay strong, it’ll be only hours now.”

I walked the phone out to Zoey, handing it over. It was crazy, just his voice and his promises had done me more good than all that sleep had. My men were coming for me, and I was finally safe… for now at least.

ChapterTwo

Callum

Just hearing Vanya’s voice had the world making sense again. It was crazy that having one member of your pack ripped away could affect you. But she was obviously more than that. If she opened herself up to us, I’d give her the world in a heartbeat. Maybe after this scare, she would. Even if she didn’t fully acknowledge it yet, she was our mate, through and through.

“What is it?” Nyx asked as he barreled into the room. He looked the worst out of us. His pale face impossibly paler, the dark circles under his eyes so intense he looked bruised. But all of us had suffered. It was like having a limb cut off and not being able to function after.

“She called. She’s safe. Pack a bag, we have a flight to catch,” I told him. Nyx’s entire body sagged in relief and he turned, walking out before I could see the tears flow, though I saw them welling in his eyes before he attempted to hide them from me.

“What the fuck is he crying for?” Leven demanded as he stormed in, eyes wild.

“She’s safe. We have a flight to catch, so pack a bag. Pack her one too. More details in the car,” I told him. He nodded once and sprinted from the room. Now that they were taken care of, I was throwing everything into my own bag. I’d bought the tickets the moment I hung up the phone. Now I picked my phone back up and dialed the security office.

“Yes, Alpha?” Antonio asked.

“She called. She’s safe,” I told him. “We’re flying out, you and Carlo are in charge. Keep our pack safe at all costs.”

“Will do, boss. We’ll have everyone on alert,” he promised. “Go get our Luna.”

“That’s my plan,” I said, hanging up and tossing my phone in my bag with my wallet. The other two burst in at the same time and we loaded into the car.

Leven pulled some kind of magic keeping his patience long enough for me to drive through the front gate before he was asking me questions.

“What happened to her? Where are we going? We’re going to kill him, right? Slowly… painfully… using one sharp claw at a time?”

“I’m on his side. I can heal him just enough for us to do a few rounds,” Nyx mused, running a hand over his chin like he’s contemplating a huge intricate setup. And our joking healer might be doing just that.

“Let’s table murder until we know she’s truly safe. So first mindfuck is she’s in California,” I started, both of them cursing at that.
