They’d also talked about her last night, and Supreme convinced him to go after her. He reminded him that signs often came in threes, and though he might not have wanted to be in a relationship, there was something inside of Denali that was reserved for him.

“I keep telling you to start your business back up. Ain’t no reason for you to still be shut down.”

“There are a lot of reasons, actually. None of which are worth talking about, though.”

“If they aren’t worth talking about, they shouldn’t be worth holding you back either, nigga. Getcho shit together and get back to this money. I know you got enough of it to be straight, but still. You need the discipline and fulfillment that comes from doing what you love. Even if you do it just for yourself or a select few, don’t let Greg or Jah ruin another thing for you.”

“I hear you,” was all Elite said as he headed out of the garage.

Supreme sucked his teeth. “So you going to see shorty?”

“I might be.” Thoughts of Denali had a grin spreading his lips. “She might not even be at work today.”

“Well, if she ain’t, you know how you can get in touch with ’er now. Call Cassie and tell her to handle that.”

Elite chuckled. “I’m not telling Cassie to handleshit. She was cool, though, I can’t lie. Very warm and inviting. You know how I am about that nurturing spirit type. Cassie got it fa sho.”

“That’s good. I guess all our souls need comforting every now and then. Seems like she did that for him.”

“Are you going over when you get back?”

“I’ma think about it. I hadn’t planned on it, but since we got some sisters, I might swing through. Plus… I wanna see the godly version of Greg.”

Elite chuckled. “Get yo’ crazy ass off my phone, bruh.”

“Aight. I’ll be at you when I get back in town. Call me if you see my future sister-in-law.”

“Goodbye, Supreme,” Elite dismissed as he chuckled before disconnecting the call.

She was there—looking beautiful as always. Her hair was pulled up in a bun with shorter pieces hanging out here and there. Elite didn’t want to look like a creep standing there just staring at her, but he also had no need for anything in the store. Denali was his sole purpose for being there, so he got in line and waited until she was free.

Denali didn’t notice him until she checked out the woman in front of him, and as soon as her eyes landed on him, she smiled.

“Hey,” she greeted cheerfully. “I was hoping you’d come see me.”

“Is that right?”

“Yeah. I thought about you a lot last night. Hoped you were okay.”

“I’m good. Ain’t shit I can’t handle.”

Denali nodded and looked around briefly before heading from behind the counter and making her way next to him.

“So you work here, you tutor, and you’re a babysitter?” he confirmed.

Denali smiled and nodded. “Yes. Harmony has changed things because business isn’t flowing as well as it used to, so I’m only getting paid off commissions now. Working for Cassie gives me another stream of income without taking too much time away from my kids. Plus, I love Cassie. She’s like a second mother to me.”

“That’s what’s up. How many children do you have?”

“Two.” Her smile widened as he leaned against the counter. “A girl and a boy.”

“Let me see. I know you got hella pictures.”

Denali’s giggle was contagious as she pulled her phone out of her pocket. “You know I do.”

She made her way next to him at the counter as she pulled up her photos on her iPhone. It didn’t take a lot of scrolling before she landed on a picture of her and the two kids he’d seen her with at the bowling alley.
