“How many more excuses are you going to make?”

“I’m not making excuses. It’s the truth.”

“Fine, then come to my house.”

“Treyton.”

“Are you ever going to call me Trey, like I ask?”

“Probably not.” She laughs softly.

“Come over.”

“No.”

“Then I’m coming to you.”

“I already told you…”

“I don’t care if your house is clean or not. I’m not coming over to see your house. I’m coming over to see you. I want to spend…”

“What are we doing?” She abruptly cuts me off with a question that makes me pause.

“What do you mean?” I ask, not really sure how the fuck to answer that question or really what she’s even asking.

“You and me. What are we doing?”

“I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re asking me. At the moment, I’m trying to get you to agree to see me, while you are hell bent on telling me no.”

“That’s not what I meant.” She blows out a breath. “What am I to you? Am I just some random person for you to get your kicks off with, then when you’re bored of me you’ll move on? Are we friends that have sex? Are we more? What are we doing here, Treyton?”

“What do you want us to be doing?”

“I don’t know. What doyouwant us to be doing?” She turns it back around on me.

“I can think of a few things I want us to be doing right about now,” I tease.

“I’m serious, Treyton. I know you might be used to casual flings that have no need for a label, but I’m not that kind of girl. I’m not asking for a marriage proposal here. I just want to know where we stand.”

“Open your door and I’ll tell you.”

“You’re here?” Her voice shoots up again. “I told the front desk…”

“Yeah, well, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there’s a handful of different people that work the lobby, and it would appear that at least one of them didn’t get the memo.”

“Mother fuckers…” she whispers under her breath. So when I laugh, having clearly heard her, she groans. “You heard that, yeah?”

“Maybe you should have thought it, and not said it, if you didn’t want me to hear.” I smile into the phone. “Now open the door. I look like a stalker out here pacing the hallway.”

“Treyton Tyler, stalking me… I doubt anyone would believe it.”

“It’s only stalking if it’s unwanted.”

“Well, to be fair, you did show up uninvited.”

“But, you’re going to let me in anyway.”

“What makes you so sure?” The smile in her voice is so clear it’s like I’m seeing her instead of hearing her.
