He thinks on that for a moment, as if to choose his words carefully.

“I’m going to plead the fifth on that one.” He scratches the back of his neck, seeming uncharacteristically nervous.

“That many?” I choke.

“I never tried to hide the fact that I like sex, or haven’t you figured that one out yet?” He smirks. “I’ve just never liked to have it with the same person. Until recently, that is.”

I don’t miss how he sneaks that last bit in there.

If his goal was to derail me by reminding me that I’m special, well…well…

Oh, hell, who am I kidding? It totally worked.

“Speaking of which…” He sets his food on the table. “Have you had your fill?”

“Of what, my food? Or you?” I trail my tongue along my bottom lip with purpose.

“Your food.”

I nod, allowing him to take the carton from my hand. He sets it next to his before closing in on me.

“We both know you’re nowhere near having your fill of me.” He presses a soft kiss to my mouth.

“How can you be so sure?” I ask, unable to hold in the soft moan that erupts from my throat when his tongue slides against mine.

“I think you just made my point for me.” He chuckles.

And I did.

Because he’s right.

I haven’t even come close to getting my fill of him.

And if I’m being honest, I’m not sure I ever will.

“Hi, Mom.” I reluctantly answer my phone over the car’s speaker, knowing I can’t keep avoiding her the way I have.

To be fair, this is the first time she’s called me since I had lunch with my father, who undoubtedly told her to give me some space, which she wisely did. Because now everything she said to me two weeks ago feels like a distant memory.

That was back when I was fighting against my feelings, and that ship has long since sailed.

“You answered.” She doesn’t try to hide the surprise in her voice.

“I did,” I confirm, unnecessarily.

“How are you?”

“I’m good. Just leaving a client showing and heading to my next one.”

“I can call later, if you’re busy.”

“No, that’s okay. It’ll take me a few minutes to get there. What’s up?”

“I just… Well, I just wanted to hear your voice, and make sure you’re doing okay. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I said the last time we spoke, and I’ve realized now that I wasn’t being fair to you.” She sighs loud enough that I can hear it. “I just love you so much, Clarke, honey, and I know that I’ve made a lot of mistakes where both you and your father are concerned, but I hope you can see how hard I’ve worked to be a better mother to you, and wife to your father.”

“I know that. Of course, I know that, Mom. And I’m sorry for what I said. I lashed out at you because a lot of what you were saying, I knew was true and I didn’t want to hear it. But you were wrong about one thing, Treyton is not like Bronson.”

“I assumed you were still seeing him.”
