“Still true.” I smile at him.

“I beg to differ. I think you would have been an incredible dancer.”

“I think you’re just being nice.” I crinkle my nose and shake my head.

“One of these days, Finley, one of these days you’re going to see yourself through my eyes and when you do, you’re going to see just how special you truly are.”

“Will you promise me something?” I ask, not waiting for him to answer before continuing. “Promise me that when I’m gone, you won’t shut yourself off from the world.”

“Finley.” His expression drops.

“I’m not going to go there tonight. I just need to say this one thing. I want you to promise me that you’ll keep your heart open to the possibility of loving again. Because I want that for you, Abel. I want you to find someone that makes you happy. Someone you can have children with and grow old with. Someone that makes you as happy as you make me. Find your person. And when you do, don’t ever let her go.”

“You’re my person.” He drops his forehead to mine, his movements stilling.

“For now.” I reach up, tangling my hands in his hair.

“Forever,” he whispers.

“Can you please just promise me?”

“I can’t even fathom loving someone else right now, Fin. I just wanna love you.”

“But one day you will. One day you’re going to meet someone that makes everything you’ve lost seem like a little less and when that day comes, I need to know that you’ll be willing to reach out and take it. Just promise me.”

“Okay. I promise.” He lets out a slow breath.

“Thank you.” I push up on my tip toes and press my lips to his.

“You’re the love of my life, Finley Collins,” he murmurs against my mouth.

Goosebumps erupt across the skin at hearing him call me by his last name. My heart feels so full I’m not sure it can take much more.

“And you’re mine,” I reply before deepening the kiss.

——

“Good morning, Mrs.Collins.” Abel snuggles the back of my neck, spooning his body against mine.

“Good morning, Mr. Collins.” I smile, not bothering to open my eyes.

“The world is waiting for you.” He lays a light kiss to my shoulder.

“It is, isn’t it?” I stretch my legs, peeling one eye open and then the other, the morning sun peering in through the van windows warm on my skin.

“Today we’re going to visit Zion National Park, remember?” he reminds me and I instantly perk up.

It’s the only place I have on my list to visit in Utah. I mean there are tons of other things I want to see, but this was the main one I knew we had to see. We’re going to hike the trails and enjoy the outdoors for a while. Then we’re going to stay at a campground in the Park for the night. I’ve been looking forward to this stop for a while.

“That’s right.” I sit up too quickly and get a little lightheaded.

“You okay.” Abel sits up, his hand going to the middle of my back.

“Yeah, I just sat up too fast.”

“You sure you feel up to hiking today?”

“Yeah, I feel great.” The lie I’ve been telling myself and him over the last couple of days falls easily from my lips.
