I chuckle, tightening my grip on her.

“Goodnight, justFinley.” I drop a kiss into her hair.

It’s not long before her breathing slows and evens and her body relaxes fully into mine.

I never imagined when this day started that this is where it would end. I woke up dreading that I was meeting my brothers, knowing that I would likely be enduring another round of “don’t you think it’s about time you grow up and actually do something with your life” speech. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but this song and dance of theirs grew old a long time ago.

When I offered to get the next round, I did so to give myself a moment of reprieve, not having any idea that in doing so I would be changing the entire course of the night. Maybe even my life.

I close my eyes and remember how she looked sitting at the bar. How in one glance I knew she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.

When I decided to go back inside after the guys had left I had no idea what would happen. I thought maybe we’d hit it off, grab a drink, forget about life for a while. And while we did all those things, it was so much more than I could have ever anticipated. Because I wasn’t just hanging out with some girl. I was hanging out withthegirl.

Maybe that sounds crazy. Hell, even thinking it makes me feel mildly mental, but it doesn’t change how I feel. It doesn’t change that lying here, with Finley in my arms, is about as close to perfect as I think I’ve ever felt.

Exhaustion starts to seep in and my mind starts to doze. I try to keep my eyes open, to force myself to stay awake, but I can’t seem to get them to cooperate.

As I begin to fade, Finley’s eyes flash through my mind before sleep finally takes me under.
