I hear her small intake of air, feel the slight tremble of her hand that comes to rest on my chest, see the confusion dancing in those brilliant blue eyes of hers.

“Atlas.” My name is a whisper on her lips, my groin tightening at the sound.

“Answer me,” I demand, pulling her closer, her mouth a breath away from mine.

“I... I think so,” she stutters.

“I don’t,” I tell her flatly.

It might be the whiskey and I might regret this when I’m sober, but right now I’m not thinking about tomorrow. I’m thinking about right now. And right now, there’s only one thing I want.

“Because you hate me so much?” she guesses, her words catching in her throat when I wrap my arm around her back and tug her closer, letting her feel the evidence of just how much I hate her.

“What do you think?” I grind upward, not missing the small moan that slides out of her mouth, making my head feel dizzy. “With you there’s only two options. Fight with you or fuck you. There’s no in between. And we both know I can’t do the latter.”

“I think...”

“You think what?” I slide my nose against hers.

“I think you should kiss me now.”

The beating organ inside my chest takes off in a full gallop, kicking against my ribs.

We linger there, so close. Both tempted. Neither willing to make the first move. The energy pings between us, making my whole body feel magnetized.

Her tongue darts out, wetting her lips. Lips I haven’t been able to stop thinking about. Lips that I so desperately want to taste again and again. The memory of her fingers tugging my hair boils to the surface. Of the little moans that escaped her mouth as I ravaged her against the bathroom wall. How fucking incredible she felt in my arms.

I lean forward, temptation breaking me down, making it impossible to resist her.

But just as my lips brush hers, the moment is broken by the sound of the front door.

Once again, Brennon’s timing is fucking impeccable.

She scurries off my lap, grabbing one of the books from the floor before crossing her legs, while I quickly adjust my erection before pulling a couple notebooks into my lap, flipping one open to give the appearance as though I’m looking through it.

Seconds later, Brennon steps into the open doorway.

He looks at me and then at his sister, whose back is facing him, before his confused gaze comes back to me.

“Um, am I in the right apartment?” He looks behind him down the hallway and then back into the room.

“Hey, where the fuck have you been?” I give him a chin lift like Barlow hanging out in my room isn’t the weirdest shit to happen, maybe ever.

“Never mind where I’ve been.” He scratches the back of his head. “What the fuck are you two doing?”

“I was helping Atlas unpack all his crap.” Barlow turns her head, making a show of the book in her hand.

“And you’re doing that why?”

“Because we’ve reached an understanding.” She drops the book, giving me a small smile as she pushes to her feet. “We’re going to be friends now,” she announces, turning toward her brother.

He chokes on a cough.

“Is this a joke?” His bewildered gaze comes back to me.

“Nope, no joke,” Barlow answers before I can say anything. Hell, I wouldn’t even know what to say anyway.

“Just how drunk are you?” He lifts a brow, clearly not missing the slight slur in her words, something I hadn’t noticed until this moment.
