“If you want to know what it means, I reckon so.” He leans in, his face so close his warm breath fans across my face. “So, do you want to know?”

Having him so close, his scent dancing around me, I feel off kilter, dizzy even.

“Atlas...” I stop speaking. The one time I actually want to say something and I can’t force my stupid mouth to move.

He hovers over me for a long moment, his weight deliciously heavy, his expression unreadable. And then, without warning, he abruptly shifts and pushes to a stand, dousing the slow simmer that had started to build inside me with ice cold water. I swear I can hear it pop and crack as it cools.

“I should probably let you get some sleep.” He clears his throat, grabbing his phone off the table.

“What’s the matter, Atlas? Afraid to finish what you started?”

What the fuck?

Why did I just say that?

That damn mouth of mine. I swear that bitch can’t stop herself.

“I didn’t start anything, B. Because if I did, I would probably never stop.”

With that, he turns and quickly exits the room, leaving me alone to ponder his words for the rest of a very long and sleepless night.
